Gatik, the leader in autonomous middle-mile logistics, is revolutionizing the B2B supply chain with its autonomous transportation-as-a-service (ATaaS) solution and prioritizing safe, consistent deliveries while streamlining freight movement by reducing congestion. The company focuses on short-haul, B2B logistics for Fortune 500 retailers and in 2021 launched the world’s first fully driverless commercial transportation service with Walmart. Gatik's Class 3-7 autonomous trucks are commercially deployed across major markets, including Texas, Arkansas, and Ontario, Canada, driving innovation in freight transportation.

The company's proprietary Level 4 autonomous technology, Gatik Carrier™, is custom-built to transport freight safely and efficiently between pick-up and drop-off locations on the middle mile. With robust capabilities in both highway and urban environments, Gatik Carrier™ serves as an all-encompassing solution that integrates advanced software and hardware powering the fleet, facilitating effortless integration into customers' logistics operations.

About the Role

The Fleet Operations Manager serves as the primary technical subject matter expert and operational leader bridging central hardware engineering, depot dispatch, and local maintenance execution. In this critical crossover role within the autonomous trucking sector, you will oversee two foundational mandates: Fleet Readiness & Availability (ensuring operational trucks are prepped and staged to fulfill commercial route schedules) and Dual-Layer Fleet Health & Safety (maintaining strict DOT/FMCSA commercial vehicle roadworthiness alongside the full Autonomous Driving System sensor, compute, and hardware stack).

Reporting into the Sr. Manager, Market Operations, you will govern third-party maintenance providers, manage dealership warranty and service turnarounds, maintain structured root-cause diagnostic protocols, and leverage connected telematics to optimize fleet cost-per-mile metrics without compromising system safety or vehicle uptime.

This role isonsite 5 days per week in Phoenix, AZ or Fort Worth, TX.

What You'll Do

• Fleet Readiness & Scheduling: Maximize vehicle availability and utilization while coordinating preventative maintenance, campaigns, and retrofits to support commercial route schedules.
• Dual-Layer Fleet Health & Compliance: Oversee commercial vehicle maintenance, upfitter equipment, and Autonomous Driving System (ADS) hardware health while enforcing FMCSA, DOT, and safety regulations.
• Vendor Governance & SLA Enforcement: Manage third-party repair shops, dealerships, and mobile service providers to hold partners accountable to SLAs, lead root-cause investigations, and maximize warranty recovery.
• Telemetry Analytics & Cost Control: Leverage telematics and diagnostic data to reduce cost-per-mile metrics, report operational KPIs, and align with procurement on spare part stocking.

What We're Looking For

Minimum Qualifications

• Operational Experience: 5+ years in commercial fleet operations, logistics maintenance management, medium-duty/heavy-duty truck repair operations, or advanced field hardware deployment.
• Vendor Governance: 3+ years directly managing external maintenance vendors, commercial truck dealerships, or third-party service provider networks under structured SLAs and performance scorecards.
• Technical Medium-Duty Acumen: Practical knowledge of Class 4–8 commercial truck platforms, diesel powertrains, pneumatic/hydraulic brake systems, FMCSA/DOT regulatory compliance, and commercial upfits.
• Data & Telematics Proficiency: Experience extracting and analyzing vehicle data from modern Fleet Management Systems (FMS/CMMS), telematics gateways (J1939/OBD), diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), and reporting tools (Excel, Tableau, or Looker); experience with Samsara a plus.
• Problem Solving & Quality: Demonstrated ability to lead structured root-cause investigations (DMAIC, 5-Why, Fishbone) and document Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
• Education & Licensure: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Technology, Supply Chain, Operations, or equivalent practical field experience. Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; CDL ‘A’ w/ air brake endorsement a plus, but not required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Autonomous Platforms: Direct experience working in autonomous vehicles, advanced robotics, connected commercial fleets, or automated guided transport.
• Sensor Suite Maintenance: Hands-on troubleshooting and calibration experience with perception sensor suites (cameras, LiDAR, radar, IMU/GNSS systems, compute modules).
• Process Improvement: Formal certification or practical experience in Lean Six Sigma, Kaizen, Toyota Production System (TPS), or high-reliability depot operating frameworks.
• Dealership & OEM Systems: Familiarity with OEM service networks (e.g., Freightliner, Isuzu, International, Peterbilt) and warranty claim processing portals.

More about Gatik

Founded in 2017 by experts in autonomous vehicle technology, Gatik has rapidly expanded its presence to Mountain View, Dallas-Fort Worth, Arkansas, and Toronto. As the first and only company to achieve fully driverless middle-mile commercial deliveries, Gatik holds a unique and defensible position in the AV industry, with a clear trajectory toward sustainable growth and profitability.

We have delivered complete, proprietary AV technology - an integration of software and hardware - to enable earlier successes for our clients in constrained Level 4 autonomy. By choosing the middle mile – with defined point-to-point delivery, we have simplified some of the more complex AV challenges, enabling us to achieve full autonomy ahead of competitors. Given extensive knowledge of Gatik’s well-defined, fixed route ODDs and hybrid architecture, we are able to hyper-optimize our models with exponentially less data, establish gate-keeping mechanisms to maintain explainability, and ensure continued safety of the system for unmanned operations.
