MADE Veterinarian: Mentorship, Advancement, Development, and Education

Small Door is membership-based veterinary care designed with human standards that is better for pets, pet parents, and veterinarians alike. Through our membership model, we deliver exceptional care, 24/7 telemedicine, transparent pricing, and modern hospitality in thoughtfully designed, low-stress spaces.

Founded in 2018 with our flagship location in Manhattan’s West Village, Small Door has quickly expanded across the East Coast. In July 2026, Small Door and Bond Vet merged to build a more connected, accessible, and compassionate veterinary care experience across routine, primary, and urgent care. The combined organization will span more than 60 practices across major Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, and Midwest markets, serving over half a million pets.

We’ve set out to improve sustainability in the veterinary field, with a focus on medical excellence, mental health, and team wellness. Investing in new doctors through MADE is a core part of that commitment.

Overview

Mission: Give every new graduate the structure, mentorship, and support to become a confident, skilled, and compassionate veterinarian.

Traditionally, new veterinary graduates have had three main paths: an internship, specialization, or jumping straight into practice. We’ve created something different: a structured, supportive six-month program that builds strong clinical skills and strong communication skills side by side, with a dedicated mentor and our full veterinary network behind you.

This is a competitive program, and we accept a limited number of applicants.

What You’ll Learn

Clinical Medicine and Surgery

• Primary and acute care, including complex medical workups with long-term follow-up.
• Foundational dentistry and spay/neuter surgery training.
• RECOVER CPR certification and point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) training.
• Monthly case rounds and knowledge assessments that reinforce your learning throughout the program.

Communication

• We teach communication with the same rigor as medicine, because it is just as vital. The best treatment plan only works when clients understand it and trust it.
• Explaining diagnoses, treatment options, and estimates in clear, compassionate language, and navigating difficult conversations with confidence and empathy.
• Communicating effectively with your care team so every patient gets coordinated, consistent care.

What You Bring

• A DVM or equivalent degree from an accredited veterinary school (recent or upcoming graduates).
• Eligibility for veterinary licensure in the state where you’ll practice.

Who You Are

• A tenacious learner eager to develop your skills in general practice, surgery, dentistry, and more.
• Someone who loves advanced general practice and the problem-solving it takes to work through complex cases.
• Someone who values the human-animal bond and wants to care for patients and their pet parents over a lifetime.
• A communicator who knows that how you explain care matters as much as the care itself.
• A team player who uplifts those around you.

What Success Looks Like

• You confidently manage a full primary and acute care caseload.
• You perform routine spay/neuter and Stage 1-2 dental procedures independently.
• Clients understand and trust your recommendations, and your team relies on your clear communication.
• You’ve built strong relationships with your mentor, your practice team, and our broader DVM network.

What We Offer

• A dedicated mentor who applied to join this program because they’re passionate about teaching the next generation of veterinarians.
• Access to our larger veterinary network through our connected DVM channels, where you can ask questions, discuss cases, and learn from experienced doctors across all of our practices.
• A balanced caseload that grows gradually as your confidence does.
• Internal and external continuing education.
• Generous PTO for rest and enjoyment.
• A culture of relationship building and learning from one another (yes, our teams will likely learn from you, too!).
• Physical and mental health support, including medical, dental, and vision plan options, frequent check-ins, and an Employee Assistance Program.
• 401(k) with matching contributions.
• Parental leave programs.

Compensation

Pay Range: $125,000 to $135,000, depending on geographic region.
