Intuitive is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We provide equal employment opportunities to all qualified applicants and employees, and prohibit discrimination and harassment of any type, without regard to race, sex, pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, color, age, religion, protected veteran or disability status, genetic information or any other status protected under federal, state, or local applicable laws.

Mandatory Notices

U.S. Export Controls Disclaimer: In accordance with the U.S. Export Administration Regulations (15 CFR §743.13(b)), some roles at Intuitive Surgical may be subject to U.S. export controls for prospective employees
who are nationals from countries currently on embargo or sanctions status.

Certain information you provide as part of the application will be used for purposes of determining whether Intuitive Surgical will need to (i) obtain an export license from the U.S. Government on your behalf (note: the government’s licensing process can take 3 to 6+ months) or (ii) implement a Technology Control Plan (“TCP”) (note: typically adds 2 weeks to the hiring process).

For any Intuitive role subject to export controls, final offers are contingent upon obtaining an approved export license and/or an executed TCP prior to the prospective employee’s
start date, which may or may not be flexible, and within a timeframe that does not unreasonably impede the hiring need. If applicable, candidates will be notified and instructed on any requirements for these purposes.

We will consider for employment qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records in accordance with fair chance laws.

Preference will be given to qualified candidates who do not reside, or plan to reside, in Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, or Tennessee.

This position may be filled at a different job level than listed here depending on business need and/or on the selected candidate’s experience, knowledge and skills. Compensation will be based primarily on the job level at which the role is filled and the candidate’s qualifications, consistent with applicable law.

Accommodation & Accessibility Notice:

Intuitive is committed to providing reasonable accommodations to qualified individuals with disabilities. If you require assistance or an accommodation during any part of the application or interview process, please contact People Services at [email protected].

We provide market-competitive compensation packages, inclusive of base pay, incentives, benefits, and equity. It would not be typical for someone to be hired at the top end of range for the role, as actual pay will be determined based on several factors, including experience, skills, and qualifications. The target compensation ranges are listed.

Job Duties

Platform Development

• Help design, build, and maintain both the frontend and backend of a new internal AI-powered platform — from writing your first feature to seeing it run in production
• Build and maintain integrations between the platform and cloud services, AI APIs, and internal data sources
• Write clean, tested, and well-documented code across the full stack (Python backend + React/TypeScript frontend)

AI & Automation

• Integrate generative AI and LLM capabilities into the platform — helping business teams find information faster, answer questions, and automate repetitive tasks
• Learn and apply agentic and tool-calling patterns with guidance from senior engineers

Collaboration & Requirements

• Partner with business teams to understand their day-to-day workflows and translate them into working software features
• Participate in requirements gathering, design reviews, and sprint planning alongside senior engineers and product stakeholders
• Communicate progress, blockers, and tradeoffs clearly — to both technical and non-technical audiences

Security & Governance

• Implement and follow secure authentication and access control practices (OAuth 2.0 / OIDC) appropriate for sensitive business data
• Apply data governance principles to ensure the platform handles information responsibly and compliantly

Engineering Practices

• Contribute to and follow team best practices — unit testing, integration testing, code reviews, and documentation
• Work within CI/CD pipelines to build, test, and deploy features to production environments
• Use observability tools (logging, monitoring, alerting) to understand how the platform is performing in the real world

Iteration & Improvement

• Gather and act on real user feedback to improve features over time
• Balance speed and reliability — shipping incrementally while maintaining production quality

Qualifications

Level: Entry-Level / New Grad (0–2 years experience)

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field
• Relevant coursework: Data Structures, Algorithms, Web Development, Cloud Computing, Databases, Software Engineering, or AI/ML

Technical Skills

Languages & Frameworks

• Proficient in Python — coursework, projects, or internships
• Exposure to React and TypeScript — built UI components or personal/class projects
• Familiarity with REST APIs and web application architecture

Cloud & Infrastructure

• Introductory experience with a major cloud provider (Azure, AWS, or GCP) — even via free-tier projects or coursework
• Basic understanding of containerization (Docker) and deployment concepts
• Exposure to CI/CD concepts (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or similar)

AI / Generative AI

• Awareness of LLM APIs (OpenAI, Azure OpenAI, etc.) — class projects, hackathons, or self-study
• Curiosity about agentic patterns, tool-calling, and AI-powered workflows is a strong plus

Security & Auth

• Conceptual understanding of authentication and access control (OAuth 2.0 / OIDC a plus, but not required)
• Awareness of data privacy and secure coding practices

Soft Skills & Work Style

• Eager to collaborate with non-technical stakeholders — can translate business needs into technical requirements with guidance
• Comfortable asking questions and iterating — doesn't need perfect specs to get started
• Takes ownership of tasks end-to-end, from design through testing and deployment
• Writes clean, readable code and values good engineering practices (testing, documentation, code reviews)
• Excited about working on real, production-grade software — not just academic exercises

What You'll Grow Into

This role is designed to grow you toward senior-level independence. You'll be mentored by senior engineers while taking on meaningful scope from day one — shipping features that real business teams use.
