We are looking for an enthusiastic mid-senior-level Legal Counsel to join our in-house Legal team at Grover, full-time (40 hours/week) and a minimum 3 days per week (Tuesday-Thursday) at our Berlin HQ.

At Grover, legal isn’t a department of “no” - it’s the engine that helps us scale, innovate, and bring tech subscription to millions across Europe. "Boring” doesn't happen here. One day you're sitting with product managers to launch a frictionless checkout experience that aces consumer protection rules. The next, you're negotiating a critical enterprise vendor agreement, aligning with HR on a complex employment topic, or briefing executive leadership on a strategic market move.

As Legal Counsel, you’ll report to our Senior Legal Counsel as a trusted advisor across commercial, contract, labor, and compliance matters in our core European markets (DACH, NL, ES). You won't be a ticket-processing machine: you’ll have real ownership and variety from day one, backed by a close-knit, supportive team invested in your growth.

🎯 What you will contribute:

• Strategic Business Partnering: Serve as the trusted, pragmatic legal advisor for teams across all departments, including product, marketing, supply chain, procurement, engineering, and customer support - turning complex regulatory frameworks into clear, commercial paths forward.
• Commercial & Digital Contracting: Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements with an agile, risk-balanced approach suited for a high-growth tech environment.
• Pan-European Impact: Steer legal topics across our core markets - with a dedicated focus on DACH, the Netherlands, and Spain - keeping our digital platform aligned with evolving consumer protection and e-commerce regulations.
• People & Employment Law: Advise People & Culture on day-to-day and structural labor law matters, and represent Grover in court in civil and labor law proceedings where strategic.
• Modern Legal Operations: Champion modern legal operations by utilizing cutting-edge AI tools (Claude, Gemini, n8n) and automated workflows to increase speed, eliminate administrative bottlenecks, and scale legal support efficiently.

🤝 What you bring:

• Education & Qualification: First State Examination (Erstes Staatsexamen) or a comparable university law degree (e.g., Master of Laws / LL.M.) with above-average academic results. Candidates with foreign law degrees must have hands-on professional experience within the German market.
• Professional Experience: 2+ years of practical commercial law experience within a leading law firm or in-house legal department (either obtained in Germany or supported by German legal education). Prior experience as an in-house counsel within a tech startup, scale-up, or dynamic e-commerce business is strongly preferred.
• Core Legal Knowledge: Strong grasp of German civil, contract, and consumer protection law. Hands-on experience with individual and collective German labor law is a distinct plus.
• Mindset & Working Style: An entrepreneurial "own-it" approach. You proactively spot bottlenecks, solve problems without waiting for instructions, and can quickly build subject-matter competence in unfamiliar regulatory areas.
• Language & Communication: Exceptional communication skills (C1 minimum) in both German and English, with a knack for distilling complex legal risk into concise, executive-ready guidance.
• Standout Extras: Spanish language proficiency and an active interest in leveraging generative AI tools to rethink how in-house legal teams work.

🚀 The Grover Way - How We Drive Success:

• Own It: We take ownership seriously and define what success looks like. We drive shared ownership and don't wait - we drive. We keep one another accountable and take responsibility when issues arise.
• Challenge, Decide, and Commit: We engage in proactive support, active listening, and healthy conflict to reach the best outcomes. We value diverse perspectives and, once a decision is made, we commit to it fully.
• Empower and Grow: We enable, trust, and coach one another toward high performance, always thinking and acting like owners. We seek growth, apply feedback, and support the development of our peers.
• Respect, Transparency, and Clarity: We strive for clear, respectful, and open communication with no surprises. We simplify complex information so everyone knows the "what, why, and how".
