Are you interested in working on a fast-paced team that pioneers ways to improve safety and compliance within North American Surface Transportation (NAST)? Do you enjoy digging into the details of an event and tracing it across multiple systems until you have a clear answer? Are you motivated by challenging problems where the answer isn't handed to you? Amazon's NAST Safety & Compliance team, within Middle Mile Investigations (MMI), is seeking a detail-oriented Investigations Analyst to determine whether Amazon loads, equipment, or carrier relationships were involved in reported safety events across our carrier programs: Relay Marketplace Carrier (RMC), RMC LineHaul (RMCLH), RMC Box Truck (RMCBT), and Amazon Freight Partner (AFP). Working within established investigation workflows and SOPs, with periodic review and guidance from the Program Manager, you'll review source documents such as police and crash reports, then match what they show (trailer and tractor plates, DOT numbers, carrier and driver details) against internal load, assignment, and location records. Each event ends in a clear, documented determination of whether Amazon had involvement, backed by the evidence behind it. Along the way you'll spot issues that need follow-up, such as events that were never reported, or loads moved by a carrier other than the one assigned, and route them to the right partner teams. An ideal candidate is comfortable with ambiguity, has strong attention to detail, is vocally self-critical, and collaborates well in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment. Key job responsibilities Investigation • Conduct assigned incident investigations from intake through documented finding across RMC, RMCLH, RMCBT, and AFP, determining whether an Amazon load, asset, or carrier relationship was involved. • Collect and preserve evidence including telematics, dash-camera footage, law enforcement and crash reports, and carrier documentation. • Match physical evidence (trailer/tractor plates, DOT numbers, carrier and driver details) against load, assignment, and location records. • Apply FMCSA Crash Preventability Determination Program criteria and video review standards. • Write clear investigation narratives documenting what occurred and the factors identified, with every line sourced to verifiable data, so partner teams can act without re-investigating. • Serve as a point of contact on assigned incidents to internal stakeholders. Analysis & escalation • Identify events needing follow-up (unreported incidents, mis-assigned loads) and route them to the appropriate partner teams. • Query and reconcile data across multiple transportation systems to support investigations. • Identify trends across regions, carrier programs, and individual carriers, and surface them to the Program Manager. • Recommend enforcement action under published authority matrices for Program Manager review. Operating rhythm & process improvement • Work a steady queue of cases against turnaround expectations, keeping case records and queue status current and auditable in the systems of record. • Review recurring vendor investigation reports for completeness and escalate vendor performance issues. • Report investigation status, closure metrics, and case aging to the Program Manager on a recurring cadence. • Flag recurring data or process gaps that slow investigations, and propose improvements to investigation standard work and SOPs. A day in the life Your morning starts with the queue: new incidents overnight, open evidence requests, cases aging. You pull telematics and video on an assigned collision and chase the law enforcement report and carrier documentation. By afternoon you are writing the narrative, sourcing every line. Some events bring outside counsel into the file, and you are the person who knows what happened. A pattern you flagged last month across two regions becomes a recommendation your Program Manager takes to an enforcement decision. No two investigations are the same, and what you document today shapes what the network changes next quarter. About the team Middle Mile Investigations (MMI) sits within NAST Safety & Compliance. We investigate transportation incidents across Amazon's Middle Mile carrier programs, document what happened from verifiable evidence, and surface patterns that inform how the network operates. The team is geographically distributed, and the written product carries to senior leaders who act on it. If you enjoy detailed problem-solving and are comfortable with ambiguity, you'll do well here.
