Amazon's Specialized Businesses Security (SBS) organization is seeking a Software Development Manager to lead Core Engineering, the software engineering team that designs and builds production-ready software for all of SBS. Security teams across SBS find more issues than people can triage, route, and fix by hand, and AI-paced software development is widening that gap. Your team closes it. You will own the shared platforms that take security capability from research to production, surface findings inside the tools builders already use, and give the organization an automated answer to "what do we own, and what does this vulnerability affect?" You start from the customer. Your customers are the SBS security teams who depend on your platforms and the builder teams who receive their output, and it is your job to decide what gets built for whom and why. This is a forward-driving role. You will set the team's technical direction, turn a demand-driven backlog into a prioritized platform roadmap, and build a team that delivers measurable security outcomes at Amazon scale. Key job responsibilities - Own the roadmap, architecture, and operational health of a portfolio of security platforms used by security teams and builders across Amazon - Turn AI security capability built by a partner research team into self-service production services with API, IDE, and build-pipeline integration - Work backwards from SBS security teams and builder teams to set priorities across competing requests, and say no to work that does not meet the bar - Build, hire, and develop a team of software engineers; delegate ownership of components and grow engineers into technical leads - Drive integrations into platforms your team does not own, and manage the upstream dependencies that put your commitments at risk - Define and report on the metrics that matter: adoption, precision, time from finding to fix, and engineering hours removed from security operations - Represent the team in business reviews, operating plans, and cross-org prioritization discussions A day in the life You start the morning with your engineers on the AI pentest service, deciding how to hold precision as you open it to every Amazon builder. Midday you meet the AI Engineering lead to line up their next model milestones with your delivery plan, then review a design for a self-service framework that lets builder teams connect their own ticketing tools. In the afternoon you sit with the Vulnerability Intelligence team to work out what the asset inventory must expose to replace their manual triage, and you push back on a request that would pull the team into one-off work. You close the day with a 1:1 on an engineer's path to technical lead and a draft of the narrative for your next business review. About the team Core Engineering is the software engineering team for Amazon's Specialized Businesses Security (SBS) organization. It sits within the Core Services organization, and it's remit covers all of the teams within SBS: it builds and operates the shared platforms that SBS security teams, and the builders they support, depend on to secure our products and services for Amazon's customers. The team turns AI security research into self-service production services, routes security findings to the engineers who own the code, and gives the organization an accurate view of what it owns and what a new vulnerability affects. Its customers are security teams across penetration testing, detection engineering, vulnerability intelligence, and business security, plus builder teams across Amazon's devices and specialized businesses.
