Communications And Political Associate
Blue Rose Research
Washington
Blue Rose Research helps Democrats win elections and advance progressive causes. We work with campaigns and progressive organizations across the country to produce research and build the tools they use to decide what to say and where to spend.
We are hiring a Communications and Political Associate to help turn our research into clear, useful materials for political leaders, clients, and the press. This is an early-career role focused on drafting, research, and coordination, with guidance and review from senior staff.
What you'll do
Messaging and communications
- Draft and edit memos, presentations, and other client-facing materials, bringing together research findings and relevant background.
- Draft talking points, Q&A documents, and briefing materials for press appearances, with leadership review. Keep past materials organized for reuse.
- Monitor news and media coverage to identify opportunities for timely polling and message testing.
Political research and outreach
- Prepare research summaries and background materials for Blue Rose staff ahead of briefings with Democratic campaigns, elected officials, advocacy organizations, and other political partners.
- Collect and organize talking points, public statements, and social media content for message testing.
What you'll bring
- Typically 1–3 years of experience in Democratic politics, campaigns, legislative offices, or progressive advocacy. Internship experience counts.
- Strong writing and editing skills, including the ability to turn research into clear, accurate talking points, memos, and briefing materials.
- Comfort coordinating meetings and materials with political staff, clients, and media contacts, with guidance from senior staff.
- Working knowledge of Democratic politics, key organizations, and the current news landscape.
- Strong organization and attention to detail, with the ability to manage schedules, drafts, and requests under tight deadlines.
- Good judgment about when to take initiative, ask questions, and flag a problem, and a willingness to revise work based on feedback.
- A commitment to helping Democrats win and using research to inform political decisions.
Helpful, but not required
- Experience with polling, message testing, or political research. A quantitative or research background is welcome but not required.
- Experience with media training or interview preparation.
What we offer
- Salary $65-75K annually, depending on experience.
- We offer medical, dental, vision, 401k match, 20 weeks paid parental leave, fertility and family-building support through Maven Clinic, and unlimited PTO.
- Based in Washington, D.C., is strongly preferred, but not required.
Candidates must be authorized to work lawfully in the United States.
