Job Summary PAGNY, in partnership with the Division of Correctional Health Services (CHS) of New York City Health + Hospitals (H+H), is recruiting a Full‑Time Physician to provide primary medical care, mental health services, and emergency care within the NYC jail system. The role involves patient intake, diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic conditions, coordination with specialty consults, and supervision of PA/NP staff. Physicians are expected to maintain compliance with CHS policies, performance indicators, and employee health requirements. The position will be based at various locations on Rikers Island. Responsibilities Complete comprehensive histories and physicals for all new admissions. Diagnose and treat acute and chronic illnesses. Evaluate the need for consult services and submit prioritized consults when indicated. Review all island/off‑island specialty consult clinic and hospital returns, ensuring recommendations meet standards of care. Respond to emergencies and fire drills promptly and professionally. Familiarize with performance indicators (P.I.) and implement appropriate measures. Request radiology exams, lab tests, and EKGs when indicated; interpret results alongside clinical status. Notify Urgicare for 3‑hour/EMS runs. Generate medical modifications as needed. Maintain clinical competency by reviewing CHS protocols, current medical literature, and C.M.E. activities. Provide clinical supervision for PA’s/N.P.’s, including co‑signing of notes and medication orders. Ensure standard of care is maintained and policies and procedures of CHS are adhered to. Attend all mandatory in‑services. Comply with and maintain Employee Health requirements. Qualifications Registered to practice medicine in the State of New York and hold Federal DEA, BCLS or ACLS, and Infection Control certifications. Valid medical specialty license or certification. Board certified or board eligible in the specified area of medical specialty. 3 to 5 years of directly related experience, including a residency in a directly related medical specialty.
