Department of Neurology at Yale School of Medicine seeks to hire the inaugural section chief of General Neurology at the rank of Associate Professor/Professor. The section of General Neurology (GN) is being established at a time when the importance of this field in reducing the burden of neurologic disease and promoting brain health is increasingly recognized by national and international professional organizations. General neurologists are essential for rapid, accessible, cost‑effective, and comprehensive management of patients with neurologic disease in the community where they live. They provide the first contact for patients with neurological symptoms and offer longitudinal care for many neurological conditions, rare diseases that lack specialty clinics, and emergency situations. The Division of GN includes the Neurology Urgent Access Clinic (NUAC) and the Yale Neurology Resident Clinics. NUAC expedites evaluation of patients referred from community physicians and eases emergency department load across the health system. It also enhances the performance of clinical neuroscience inpatient teams by offering timely follow‑up slots. The GN section improves efficiency of tertiary care subspecialty services by participating in the initial evaluation and care of patients and takes a lead role in educating the next generation of general neurologists. The section sits at the core of the Yale Medicine / Yale New Haven Health System Brain Health Initiative, transforming services from the traditional reactive approach (treating disease) to a proactive approach (early disease recognition and prevention). We provide a highly collaborative, supportive, and mentored environment that promotes specialists to pursue career growth within their specific areas of interest. This position offers an exciting opportunity for individual programmatic development and goal discovery across varied academic interests within our division and department. Rank will be based on education and experience. Faculty applicants are encouraged to be dedicated to the education of the next generation of neurologists. We seek a motivated, experienced academic physician with: Expertise in the care of adult general neurology alone or in conjunction with a subspecialty Leadership skills Interest in teaching Participation in clinical trials Practice location will be in New Haven County. Candidates must have an MD or equivalent and be board certified or board eligible in Neurology. Applicants must meet the criteria for medical licensure in the state of Connecticut. Faculty rank will be based on experience. The community of New Haven and surrounding areas offers a beautiful landscape to settle with music, theater, culinary delights, beaches, boating, shoreline towns, and outdoor adventure. Yale University adds the benefits of the academic environment, collegiate events, literary and art collections, and performance art. Proximity to New York, Boston, and the rest of New England provides additional opportunities, and we are happy to work with faculty to provide opportunities to practice in locations that meet their needs.
