Job Description Position Summary The anesthesiologist will be responsible to provide clinical anesthesia care for a variety of pediatric surgery cases for children of all ages, including many infants and increasingly neonates. The Pediatric Anesthesiologist will work with a multi‑disciplinary team to provide the high quality care to include providing evaluation and treatment plan specific to the needs of each patient. Responsibilities Provide routine and emergent anesthesia care for neonatal through adult patients with American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) classifications I -VI. Perform routine preoperative evaluations on patients and provide contemporary regional and general anesthesia care for the following subspecialties: pediatric surgery, cardiothoracic, pediatric dentistry, pediatric otolaryngology, pediatric neurosurgery, pediatric urology, pediatric ophthalmology, pediatric oral and maxillofacial surgery, pediatric orthopedics and sports, pediatric plastic surgery and craniofacial surgery. Administer appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic nerve blocks in the treatment of acute and chronic pain. Oversee the activities of the recovery room and administer appropriate drug and respiratory therapy in the recovery room setting. Implement the proper use of mechanical ventilators in the recovery room, and as necessary, in the intensive care units. Provide consultation regarding preoperative preparation, intra and postoperative anesthetic management, and treatment of chronic pain patients. Perform administrative duties as required to include completion of all required reports, records, and quality assurance reviews. Participate in designated Anesthesia Service training activities to include in‑services. Participate in other catastrophic problems where the skill of an anesthesiologist is applicable, e.g., drug overdoses, cardiac arrests, respiratory problems, or trauma admissions. Participate in Continuing Medical Education and provide a high level of quality assurance. Approve general, sedative, regional, or local anesthetics. Oversee the administration of anesthesia by nurse anesthetists. Administer anesthesia to patients whose condition poses a particular anesthetic difficulty. Inform patients of risks associated with anesthesia. Participate in the evaluation of quality and appropriateness of patient care and resolving identified problems. Academic/scholarly work and division citizenship as per division chief. Comply with medical and hospital procedure policy. Perform other duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities (if applicable) No direct reports but oversees residents, fellows, CRNAs, etc. Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience Required Fellowship in Pediatric Anesthesiology Experience No experience required.
