Position Title: Substitute Custodial Aide Location: Avon Lake City Schools / Avon Lake, OH Employment Type: As Needed / Part-Time / On-Call Pay Rate: $15.25/Hour About the Role Dedicated School Staffing is seeking dependable and hardworking Substitute School Cleaners/Custodians to support school facilities teams when regular staff are absent. This role is essential in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors. Substitute custodians assist with daily cleaning tasks, light maintenance, and building upkeep across classrooms, hallways, restrooms, and common areas. Key Responsibilities Clean and sanitize classrooms, restrooms, offices, hallways, and common areas Sweep, mop, vacuum, and dust assigned spaces Empty trash and recycling containers and replace liners Assist with cafeteria cleanup, including wiping tables and maintaining floors Perform light maintenance tasks such as replacing bulbs or restocking supplies Set up or break down rooms for events or activities as needed Ensure safe use of cleaning chemicals and equipment Report maintenance issues, safety concerns, or damages to supervisors Follow district cleaning protocols, safety procedures, and schedules Work collaboratively with custodial staff and school personnel Required Qualifications Must be 18 years of age or older Clean criminal background checks Obtain Ohio ID account & enroll in Ohio rapback program Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting, bending, standing, and moving equipment Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness Dependability, punctuality, and professionalism Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team Adherence to the Licensure Code of Professional Conduct for Ohio Educators Preferred Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent Previous custodial, janitorial, or maintenance experience Familiarity with cleaning equipment and safe chemical handling Experience working in school or institutional settings What We Offer Flexible scheduling Opportunities to gain experience in school facilities operations Potential pathways to other school-based roles Potential for long-term substitute opportunities Options for minor medical benefits Enrollment in School Employees Retirement System (SERS)
