Position Summary Assistant Director of Nursing/House‑wide Supervisor at Stony Brook Medicine under the general direction of the Director of Nursing Support Services. The role coordinates all administrative and clinical matters for nursing activities in the hospital, supervising clinicians, evaluating patient care practices, implementing performance improvement monitoring, and participating in decision‑making activities. Duties and Responsibilities Utilize Stony Brook Medicine’s mission, vision, and values to set the departmental benchmark for customer service. Participate and monitor the organization’s quality and patient safety programs, assess units for factors related to patient safety, staffing, scheduling, and patient flow. Coordinate and direct day‑to‑day patient flow of the ED/PACU and all inpatient units within the Division of Nursing, working with the Admitting Department to ensure timely bed assignments. Maintain an appropriate staffing level to meet patient care requirements and NYS Nursing Quality Protection Act, making daily staffing adjustments for changes in census and acuity. Approve overtime usage in the absence of the Unit Manager while remaining cognizant of the Nursing budget. Assign float staff and agency personnel based on established guidelines and credentialing criteria. Address and resolve patient and family concerns and complaints. Serve as Administrator on Duty for all hospital‑related activities during evening, night, weekend, and holiday shifts, ensuring the AOD/Chief Nursing Officer is apprised of pertinent issues. Ensure full compliance with accrediting and regulatory agencies, and implement Chain of Command policy. Demonstrate proficiency in computer applications (Clairvia, Capacity Management, SB Safe) and contribute to quality improvement reporting. Assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures, interpret hospital policies to nursing staff, and provide education opportunities. Direct day‑to‑day evaluation of quantitative services to patients and communicate results to the appropriate Nurse Manager. Collaborate with medical staff and other disciplines in planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care. Maintain regular communication with Nurse Managers regarding observations of staff and clinical performance. Ensure the implementation and evaluation of standards of nursing practice and participate in the Performance Improvement Program. Serve on selected committees as designated by the Director of Nursing Support Services. Conduct ongoing quality assurance chart reviews to ensure appropriate medical documentation by the medical health care team. Qualifications Required: Current NYS RN licensure. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or related field. Five years of experience post‑licensure, including at least three years in a specialty area and two years in management or supervisory roles. Proficiency in computer skills. Preferred: Additional experience in hospital administration or nursing leadership. Advanced certifications in nursing practice or quality improvement.
