Overview Oversees the patient's diagnosis, treatment and prevention of vision problems and eye diseases within the scope of his/her licensure. Salary $119,000 - $154,000 (plus incentive bonus) with the possibility of higher compensation for highly experienced candidates. Responsibilities Examine eyes using observation, instruments, and pharmaceutical agents to determine visual acuity, perception, focus, and coordination, and to diagnose diseases and other abnormalities. Practice at the full scope of licensure and prescribe medications to treat eye diseases as permitted by state law. Prescribe, supply, fit, and adjust eyeglasses, contact lenses, and other vision aids. Analyze test results and develop treatment plans. Educate and counsel patients on contact lens care, visual hygiene, lighting arrangements, and safety factors. Remove foreign bodies from the eye. Order and interpret special-testing data for patients. Observe and train staff regarding appropriate work-up procedures. Consult with and refer patients to ophthalmologists or other healthcare practitioners when additional medical treatment is necessary. Provide pre‑ and post‑operative care to patients undergoing eye surgeries such as cataract and laser vision correction. Prescribe therapeutic procedures to correct or preserve vision. Promote a positive work culture and uphold clinic policies and procedures, including the WE CARE standards of behavior. Maintain confidentiality regarding CBHA activities, reports, financials, patient health information, and other proprietary information. Serve as a clinical lead in the absence of the Director of Eye Care. Execute other duties as assigned. Qualifications Professional and Technical Knowledge: Maintain authoritative skill and knowledge in the principles of sound medical practice. Be familiar with the scope of practice and regulatory authority governing the practice of opticians and ophthalmic technicians. Be attuned to the unique needs of the indigent and underserved, with a focus on rural medicine. Hold a degree in optometry from an accredited school and be licensed to practice in Washington.
