Job Overview Physician – Correctional Health Services (CHS) – Astoria, NY 11105. Regular full‑time position with a salary of $103.37 per hour. Shift 1. Full‑time, float schedule on various locations on Rikers Island. No physician time is dedicated to billing and no administrative work is expected outside of work hours, promoting career/life balance. The healthcare system is a single‑payer system. Responsibilities Complete comprehensive histories and physicals on all new admissions. Diagnose and treat acute and chronic illnesses. Evaluate the need for consult services and submit the prioritized consult when indicated. Review all on‑island/off‑island specialty consult clinic and hospital returns. Evaluate the recommendations to ensure that the standard of care is met and implement the recommendations of the consultant. Respond to emergencies and fire drills on a priority basis and in a timely and professional manner. Be familiar with performance indicators and take appropriate measures to comply with these standards. Request radiology exams, lab tests, and EKGs when indicated and interpret these results in conjunction with the patient’s clinical status. Notify Urgicare for 3‑hour/EMS runs. Generate medical modifications as needed. Maintain clinical competency by reviewing CHS protocols, current medical literature, and continuing medical education. Provide clinical supervision for P.A.’s/N.P.’s, including co‑signing of notes and medication orders. Ensure that the standard of care is maintained. Adhere to policies and procedures of CHS and review them as needed. Attend all mandatory in‑services. Comply with and maintain Employee Health requirements. Qualifications Registered to practice medicine in the State of New York with Federal DEA, Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Infection Control Certification. Medical specialty license or certification. Board certified or board eligible in a specified area of medical specialty. Three to five years of directly related experience, including residency, in a directly related medical specialty. Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR).
