Position Summary Provides evidence-based vision care to ensure patient health and well‑being by recommending and prescribing medications and other treatment options, including red eye care, LASIK surgery, cataract surgery, and other modalities. The role delivers routine vision examinations, educates patients and store associates on eye health, contact lens care, disease state management, safety factors, and appropriate follow‑up. It consults with other health professionals to prepare and coordinate patient care plans, provides referrals to ophthalmologists and other specialists, and follows up on diagnostics and patient information as needed. Key Responsibilities Evaluate patients’ visual acuity, visual function, and eye health using keratometry, refraction, and observation instruments, and determine diagnosis and treatment. Prescribe and provide eyeglasses, contact lenses, and other vision aids; order, interpret, and assess diagnostic tests such as glaucoma testing and Optical Coherence Tomography. Offer additional vision treatments such as foreign body removal and evidence‑based treatment plans based on patient presentation. Deliver exceptional customer service, maintain patient information within the vision center system (e.g., BOSS) accurately and confidentially, and assist opticians with best practices and procedures. Perform administrative and retail tasks—financial transactions, patient registration, and retail transactions—while complying with state, local, federal regulations and Walmart vision center guidelines. Analyze business objectives, develop and implement strategies, evaluate operational processes, manage resources, and promote continuous improvement within the vision center. Recruit, develop, and retain a highly skilled workforce, support mentorship and succession planning, and foster a culture of integrity and ethics. Engage in community outreach, build stakeholder relationships, and support associate initiatives. Minimum Qualifications Doctoral degree in Optometry (OD) from an accredited optometry school. Licensed optometrist in good standing in the state of practice. Preferred Qualifications Experience in healthcare settings beyond optometry.
