We are recruiting dedicated and compassionate Principal Psychiatrists to improve the well‑being of our clients and patients throughout the state of Connecticut. These positions are full‑time or part‑time and may be located in any of our state‑wide facilities, including the Capitol Region Mental Health Center, Connecticut Mental Health Center, Connecticut Valley Hospital, River Valley Services, Southern Mental Health Authority, Southwest Connecticut Mental Health System, Western Connecticut Mental Health Network, and Whiting Forensic Hospital. Responsibilities Provide 24‑hour supervision to specified groups of patients and facility coverage as scheduled, including on‑call and weekend coverage. Make rounds and provide direct care and clinical oversight of multidisciplinary treatment teams. Coordinate work of medical staff with related programs. Review treatment plans, clinical records, diagnoses, and discharge plans for adherence to policies and standards, including The Joint Commission and HCFA. Provide education and training such as grand rounds and case conferences. Assign, oversee, and evaluate work of staff and on‑site night duty physicians and/or psychiatrists. Conduct or participate in meetings on clinical and administrative policy, research programs, clinical program development, and treatment techniques. Assess, examine, and evaluate patients for admission or discharge. Diagnose and prescribe medications and other biologic and psychosocial treatments for patients with psychiatric illnesses and substance abuse disorders. Perform advanced level risk assessments. Consult on difficult and/or complex cases. Develop and implement QA and/or QI process improvement initiatives. Prepare and/or review reports, medical records, and correspondence. Perform utilization review and management functions. Attend court hearings as a state witness. Perform related duties as required. Qualifications Extensive knowledge of behavioral health medicine, assessment and treatment of psychiatric illnesses and substance abuse disorders, and recent developments in psychiatry and substance abuse treatment models. Substantial interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. Advanced clinical skills to examine for, diagnose, assess, and treat psychiatric illnesses and substance abuse disorders; prescribe and conduct psychotherapy, medications, and other treatments. Ability to develop a collaborative group practice environment with other psychiatrists, physicians, and interdisciplinary team members. Proficiency in analyzing and interpreting laboratory reports, imaging, and other medical or psychological findings. Administrative and supervisory abilities. Minimum Qualifications – General Experience Certification as a specialist in psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, or board certification in Adult or Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. License to practice medicine and surgery in Connecticut (a temporary license may be granted for up to one year). Eligibility for participation in federal health care programs as defined in 42 U.S. 1320a‑7b(f). Possession of, or eligibility for, additional certifications in areas such as geriatrics, ABI/TBI, forensics, or substance abuse (if required). Possession of appropriate current licenses, certifications, or permits as required. Possibility of bilingual proficiency if required.
