Job Overview The Division of Anesthesiology within the Department of Pediatric Medicine seeks a full-time Staff Physician‑Anesthesiologist. Candidates must be board‑certified or eligible in anesthesiology and preferably in pediatric anesthesiology with an MD, DO, or equivalent. They must be eligible for an unrestricted medical license in Tennessee. Responsibilities Perform patient‑care duties according to established standards, scopes of care, and patient‑specific protocols. Obtain informed consent for research protocols and document medical, family, and social histories. Conduct physical examinations, order diagnostic studies, interpret patient data, and diagnose disease and stage. Identify and implement appropriate medical treatment, monitor patient response, and facilitate referrals. Provide patient and family support, follow‑up, medication prescribing, and clinical oversight. Offer consultative services to nursing staff and coordinate complex patient‑care questions with other physicians. Evaluate prescription medicine needs, explore alternative techniques, and communicate with primary physicians. Prepare reports for third‑party providers and subspecialists, and participate in clinical care teams. Comply with all clinical staff bylaws, rules, and regulations. Supervise assigned staff, including scheduling, performance evaluation, and continuing education. Develop and maintain ongoing education for clinical staff, supervise postdoctoral fellows, and support nurse practitioner learning. Ensure compliance with HCFA billing guidelines and other regulatory agencies; submit required information and develop compliance monitoring mechanisms. Provide periodic status reports to the Department Chair and demonstrate age‑specific patient care knowledge for infants up to 20 years. Participate in system improvement activities to prevent patient‑care incidents and enhance safety and quality. Perform additional duties as assigned to meet departmental goals and institutional objectives. Maintain regular and predictable attendance. Qualifications Board certified or eligible in anesthesiology. Board certified or eligible in pediatric anesthesiology preferred. Experience in pediatrics or a relevant specialty preferred. Unrestricted medical license to practice in Tennessee. Active unrestricted privileges at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
