Area Chief of Staff Pay: $128,635 - $185,806 annually (variable pay available). Summary The Area Chief of Staff leads, develops, and manages associate veterinarians across hospitals to attract, engage, and retain high-quality providers. This role drives a culture of quality care, supports veterinary teams, and ensures adherence to the six domains of quality: safe, effective, patient/client centered, timely, efficient, and equitable care. Responsibilities Live and exemplify the Five Principles of Mars, Inc. within self and team. Act as Responsible Veterinarian for Veterinary and Pharmacy Board Permits, as required by law. Own the controlled-substance inventory for relief doctors. Own doctor engagement and retention by assessing risk, proactively retaining, and creating community culture. Provide effective medical leadership by driving an inclusive, collaborative work environment with practice managers. Validate clinical skillsets of doctors, veterinary assistants, and technicians through record reviews, quality assignments, audits, and patient-safety reviews. Deliver veterinary services; time in clinical role varies by hospital size and productivity. Maintain a 100% hospital-based manager role; partner with DVQ to determine clinical time allocation. Oversee the coaching program for newly hired veterinarians to ensure a productive, knowledgeable onboarding experience. Ensure experiential learning for clinical, surgical, and dental skills tailored to individual veterinarian needs. Recruit veterinary talent in partnership with the Director of Veterinary Quality and Talent Acquisition team. Serve as a brand ambassador in the local veterinary community. Deliver an exceptional hospital experience to student externs, job-program participants, and candidates during hospital observations. Support associate doctors in achieving productivity goals through high-quality medicine, preventive care, and client experience. Deliver veterinary operations KPI’s for assigned hospitals with practice managers. Develop, execute, and revise plans to achieve targeted KPI’s and OGSM performance. Build a veterinary leadership talent bench and maintain a succession plan. Ensure compliance with Banfield clinical essentials, government regulations, and industry standards via assessments, reviews, and audits. Meet all local, state, and federal regulatory requirements, including controlled-substance management and radiation safety. Create and implement timely plans to resolve identified gaps. Champion preventive-care culture by demonstrating optimal wellness plan growth and retention. Build a "say-yes" culture that promotes client access and superior service to exceed client experience goals. Resolve client complaints related to medical standard of care in a timely manner. Manage medical-equipment inventory and new-equipment requests with the Director of Veterinary Quality. Deliver the highest level of veterinary care with professionalism and ethics, ensuring clients and pets receive exceptional experience. Build trust and gain confidence of clients through preventive care, diagnostics, treatment plans, home-care instructions, and follow-up visits. Perform other assigned duties as required. Veterinary license in good standing or eligibility for licensure. 3 years of small-animal medicine and surgery practice. Special Working Conditions Work may require more than 40 hours per week, extended computer use, and ambulatory skills to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, and lift up to 50 lb. Good hand-eye coordination and visual acuity are essential. Exposure to pets, anesthesia, radiation, biological hazards, and medication/control substances occurs. Some travel to assist area hospitals, vendor visits, and associate education.
