Physician (Emergency) – Bassett Army Community Hospital, Fort Wainwright, Alaska About the Position: This is a continuous announcement. Major Duties Responsible for the full range of cases and the immediate initial recognition, evaluation, care, and disposition of patients. Provide recommendations on additional diagnostic or treatment procedures in clinical conferences and/or discussions with staff physicians. Direct and provide oversight of the operation of the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) to include nurses, paramedics, paraprofessionals, administrative and ambulance personnel and pre‑hospital medical management of patients. Provide consultative advice on professional and administrative matters concerning patient care in the Emergency Department. Make recommendations regarding changes to policies, procedures and programs needed for efficient department operations. Provide a broad range of medical diagnosis, treatment, counseling, services and referrals to primary care and specialty clinics. Performs other duties as assigned. This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re‑verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis. May be required to obtain and maintain certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). May be required to obtain and maintain certification in Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP). Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges. This position may include shift work (evenings, weekends, holidays). This position may require rotating shifts. This position may require the incumbent to work on call during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules. Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens. Basic Requirements for Physician (Emergency Medicine): Degree: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada, accredited by an approved body. A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent from a foreign medical school must have demonstrated equivalency to accredited US schools. Licensure: Current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Graduate Training: At least one year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting (one‑year internship or first year of a residency) after obtaining a MD or DO degree. In addition to the basic requirements, to qualify for this position you must also meet the following: Successfully completed the required accredited residency training in Emergency Medicine and have at least 4 years of experience or training equal to it.
