Physician (Emergency) – Bassett Army Community Hospital, Fort Wainwright, Alaska About the Position: This is a continuous announcement. Multiple vacancies exist and may be filled from this announcement at any of the listed locations. The position is a Direct Hire Solicitation. Student loan repayment may be authorized. Major Duties Responsible for the full range of cases and the immediate initial recognition, evaluation, care, and disposition of patients. Provide recommendations on additional diagnostic or treatment procedures in clinical conferences and/or discussions with staff physicians. Direct and provide oversight of the operation of the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) to include nurses, paramedics, paraprofessionals, administrative and ambulance personnel and pre‑hospital medical management of patients. Provide consultative advice on professional and administrative matters concerning patient care in the Emergency Department. Make recommendations regarding changes to policies, procedures and programs needed for efficient department operations. Provide a broad range of medical diagnosis, treatment, counseling, services and referrals to primary care and specialty clinics. Performs other duties as assigned. Conditions of Employment Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. A Personnel Security Investigation is required. This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re‑verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis. Selectees will be required to sign a statement consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption. This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre‑employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing. A pre‑placement medical examination is required. Moderate to heavy lifting may be required. Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position. Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS. May be required to obtain and maintain certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS). May be required to obtain and maintain certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). May be required to obtain and maintain certification in Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP). Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges. This position may include shift work (evenings, weekends, holidays). This position may require rotating shifts. This position may require the incumbent to work on call during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules. Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens. Basic Requirements for Physician (Emergency Medicine): Degree: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada, accredited by an approved body. A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent from a foreign medical school must have demonstrated equivalency to accredited US schools. Licensure: Current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Graduate Training: At least one year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting (one‑year internship or first year of a residency) after obtaining a MD or DO degree. In addition to the basic requirements, to qualify for this position you must also meet the following: Successfully completed the required accredited residency training in Emergency Medicine and have at least 4 years of experience or training equal to it.
