Summary The VA Central Iowa Health Care System is recruiting for an intermittently employed Hospitalist Physician. The Hospitalist Physician provides Admission‑Discharge daily follow‑up and consultative medical care for hospitalized patients at the VA Medical Center in Des Moines. Qualifications United States Citizenship (non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy) Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree from a program approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year of completion Full and unrestricted medical license in a U.S. State, Territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia Completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty program leading to board certification eligibility (ACGME or AOA accredited residencies; or other residencies followed by at least five years of verified U.S. practice deemed appropriate by the local Medical Staff Executive Committee) Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency programs who meet basic requirements may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs) on an intermittent or fee‑basis; PRPs must be fully licensed physicians and are not independent practitioners Proficiency in spoken and written English Physical requirements: pre‑employment examination or evaluation as part of the hiring process For further information on qualification standards, see Duties Support Hospitalist Advance Practice Providers (Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners) in care of inpatients and provide medical coverage for all inpatients Provide indirect supervision of residents when on call and document appropriate supervision per VA policy Enter a progress note for each inpatient every day; documentation may be completed by a resident physician with documented supervision Supervise medical students and medical residents Assist with administrative efforts directed by the Chief Hospitalist and/or ACOS‑SC to expand and refine services and comply with facility, VISN, or national initiatives Participate in discharge planning and other interdisciplinary patient‑care‑plan activities; communicate patient status with team members and ensure proper hand‑off at shift end Act as surrogate for colleagues’ patients when one or more are on leave, assigning surrogates as appropriate Complete clinical documentation in all areas in accordance with facility policy Work Monday‑Friday on rotating shifts Compensation: competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases; 50‑55 days paid time off per year (26 days annual leave, 13 days sick leave, 11 paid federal holidays, 5 days for CME); traditional federal pension (5‑year vesting) and federal 401(k) with up to 5% VA contribution; federal health/vision/dental/term life/long‑term care insurance; one full and unrestricted U.S. license; CME reimbursement up to $1,000 per year (full‑time with board certification); free liability protection with tail coverage; no physician employment contract; no restriction on moonlighting; equipment: one full and unrestricted license from any U.S. State or territory #J-18808-Ljbffr
