Summary The Bay Pines VA Healthcare System is recruiting two well‑trained, energetic Physicians (Urology) who are board certified or board eligible in Urology with DaVinci robotic training and experience. The Urologist will work full time for the Surgical Care Services and provide evaluation and treatment of urological conditions. Qualifications To qualify for this position, applicants must meet the basic requirements listed below and any additional requirements (if applicable) detailed in the job announcement. United States Citizenship: Non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education: Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine obtained from a school approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year of completion. License and Registration: Current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state, territory, commonwealth, or the District of Columbia. Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program in Urology leading to eligibility for board certification. Approved residencies include: Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) programs. American Osteopathic Association (AOA) programs. Other residencies (non‑U.S. residency training followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States) deemed appropriate by the local Medical Staff Executive Committee. Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs who otherwise meet the basic requirements are eligible to be appointed as “Physician Resident Providers” (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee‑basis; they are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged. English Language Proficiency: Must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with 38 U.S.C. § 7402(d). Physical Requirements: Must pass a pre‑employment physical examination as required by VA Handbook 5019, including light to moderate lifting (15–44 lbs.), light carrying (15 lbs.), reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, walking, standing, kneeling, rapid mental and muscular coordination, visual, hearing, and emotional/mental stability. Additional qualifications: Board certified or board eligible in Urology, DaVinci robotic training and experience. Eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP); must submit an EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program award (up to \$200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the application. Duties Perform urological surgical procedures on patients, including admissions, consultations, pre‑operative work‑ups, and postoperative care to treat various urological conditions, illnesses, and injuries. Provide evaluation and treatment of urological conditions and make preliminary diagnoses. Direct, prescribe, or provide treatment, arrange for specialized care or patient referral as required. Actively participate in emergency and on‑call schedules. Provide comprehensive urologic care, including prevention, health maintenance, early diagnosis, treatment, and follow‑up services. Perform procedures in the Urology clinic such as cystoscopy, prostate biopsies, and ESWLs (Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy) in addition to surgical procedures in the operating room. Manage patients during their inpatient course, using consultants when appropriate, and perform inpatient consultations on patients from other services. Conduct outpatient clinics, review patients’ medications, diet, course of therapy, adherence to management plan, and patient observations; modify management plan as indicated; instruct and counsel patients as required. Serve as a consultant to primary care physicians and accept referrals and outpatient consultations from other providers. Function in a teaching capacity by educating patients, staff, trainees, and/or seminar participants in the assessment, treatment, management, and evaluation of urological disorders. Collaborate closely with allied health professionals and participate in the Surgical Department Quality Assurance and Peer Review programs.
