This is a critical leadership role responsible for the comprehensive oversight of all laboratory activities, ensuring the highest standards of quality, testing accuracy, and regulatory compliance. You will be the central pillar of our anatomic pathology services, directing a team that includes a Pathology Office Manager, Pathology Supervisor, and Chief Cytotechnologist. Key Responsibilities & Impact: Strategic & Operational Leadership: Direct and coordinate all activities across the histology, cytology, and MOHS labs. You will be accountable for achieving maximum testing quality and ensuring full compliance with all regulatory agencies (CAP, JCAHO, DOH, etc.). Team Development & Mentorship: Directly supervise, train, and mentor senior laboratory staff, including the Pathology Supervisor and Chief Cytotechnologist. You will be responsible for staff hiring, evaluation, competency, and professional growth. Quality Assurance & Performance Improvement: Oversee the comprehensive Quality Control program, prepare monthly reports, and actively participate in the hospital's Performance Improvement initiatives. You will monitor turnaround times and ensure the reliability of all assays. Financial & Resource Management: Develop and manage departmental budgets for operations and capital equipment in collaboration with the Senior Director and Medical Director. Maintain vendor relationships to ensure seamless supply and service. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Serve as a key liaison, working collaboratively across the interdisciplinary hospital team. You will represent the department in leadership meetings, committees, and strategic projects, acting as a positive change agent for hospital-wide initiatives. Candidate Profile (Qualifications) Proven experience managing anatomic pathology laboratories, with specific expertise in histology, cytology, and/or MOHS. Demonstrated leadership skills with a track record of successfully hiring, training, and developing laboratory personnel. In-depth knowledge of regulatory and accreditation standards (e.g., CAP, CLIA, JCAHO, NYS DOH). Strong financial acumen with experience in budget development and capital equipment planning. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to function as a role model, coach, and mentor for a diverse team. Proficiency with laboratory information systems (LIS), including instrument interfacing and report formatting. Why this role?
