Position Summary & Description The position reports to the director of the IRHS. This instructor will lead programs in Emergency Medical Services, American Heart Association courses, and industrial response medical. Programs include grant‑funded and specially contracted courses, as well as training programs at satellite locations. The instructor must maintain all required professional credentials and serve as the classroom instructor for programs in their area of responsibility. Responsibilities include class preparation, conduct, student attendance records, test development and proctoring, student advisement, and evaluation. The instructor may perform additional tasks as required by the Institute for Rural Health and Safety, the College of Health and Human Services, and the University. Duties Teach EMS courses for the Institute. Position Qualifications Required Qualifications Qualifications vary depending on the course. Verified experience as an emergency services provider in the items below or equivalent combination of education, experience and certification is required: Pennsylvania Department of Health Emergency Medical Service – Instructor and/or Professional Certificate to practice the 'art of teaching' and render professional service in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania PA Department of Health Emergency Medical Technician CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) and First Aid Instructor (American Heart Association) Preferred Qualifications Other desirable qualifications include: Associate Degree Bachelor's Degree Master's Degree PA Department of Health – Advanced Emergency Medical Technician Pennsylvania Department of Health Paramedic Pre‑hospital RN (PHRN) Physician Assistant (PA‑C) Medical Doctor (MD) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (American Heart Association) Pediatric Advanced Life Support (American Heart Association) Pre‑Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) Essential Functions The work occurs in a typical office environment. Incumbent must have the following abilities: Travel to field locations and meeting/training sites by motor vehicle when required. Communicate orally and in writing to issue and receive instructions, and convey information to a variety of co‑workers and the general public. Use common office machines such as telephones, calculators, copiers, computer terminals, keyboards, video display terminals, and similar equipment. Observe and react to hazard warnings, backup alarms, flashing lights, voice commands, and hand signals. Perform manual duties such as lifting and carrying various weight limits. Operate office equipment that may require stooping, kneeling, bending, stretching and prolonged standing. Provide assistance and guidance to internal and external customers. Follow oral and written instructions. Lift and carry 25 to 50 lbs, push and pull 25 to 50 lbs, reach above or below shoulder, climb ladders, kneel; activities occur both indoors and outdoors. Operate passenger vehicles.
