Area Chief of Staff – Role Overview Lead, develop, and manage associate veterinarians across Banfield hospitals to attract, develop, engage, and retain doctors who deliver quality care and meet expected hospital performance measures. Drive the culture and delivery of quality care by the veterinary provider team (DVM, CVT, VA) in assigned hospitals, ensuring that every pet receives consistent care aligned with the six domains of quality: safe, effective, patient/client centered, timely, efficient, and equitable. Responsibilities Live and exemplify the Five Principles of Mars, Inc. (Quality, Responsibility, Mutuality, Efficiency, Freedom). Act as Responsible Veterinarian for Veterinary and Pharmacy Board Permits and manage the controlled substance inventory for relief doctors. Own doctor engagement and retention: assess risk, develop proactive retention strategies, and foster a supportive community for doctors. Provide medical leadership: create an inclusive, collaborative environment with practice managers; validate clinical skillsets through record reviews, quality assignments, audits, and patient safety event reviews. Determine clinical time allocation in partnership with the DVQ, based on hospital workload and performance. Oversee the coaching program for newly hired veterinarians, ensuring productive, quality‑standard compliant doctors. Partner with the Director of Veterinary Quality and Talent Acquisition to recruit veterinary talent. Act as a brand ambassador in the local veterinary community and deliver excellent hospital experiences to externs, student programs, and candidates. Partner with practice managers to develop, execute, and revise plans achieving targeted KPIs and OGSM performance. Ensure compliance with Banfield's clinical essentials, government regulations, and veterinary industry standards through quality assessments, audits, and event reviews. Resolve gaps, champion preventive care culture, and promote a “say yes” culture driving client service and experience scores. Handle timely resolution of client complaints related to medical standard of care. Manage medical equipment inventory and new equipment requests in partnership with the Director of Veterinary Quality. Deliver the highest level of veterinary care to every pet in a professional and ethical manner. Some travel for supporting area hospitals, vendor visits, and education. Legal & Licensing Must obtain state‑controlled substance and federal DEA registration within 3 months of employment, unless otherwise required. Must be accredited by USDA AHSN within 3 months of employment. Experience, Education & Training Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) or equivalent foreign degree; veterinary license in good standing or eligibility for licensure with applicable state boards; 3 years of small animal medicine and surgery practice.
