Role Overview Market Cardiologist (MC) is a licensed/board‑certified professional responsible for direct patient care and assessment primarily within ambulatory health care centers. The MC plays a key role in clinical operations, including diagnosing, treating, and managing cardiovascular conditions, as well as coordinating care and leading a cardiology care team. Key Responsibilities Diagnose and treat cardiovascular diseases such as heart attacks and coronary heart disease through patient history, physical exams, and appropriate diagnostic tests. Manage a patient panel of 3,500–4,000 seniors, providing outpatient care and targeted inpatient visits as needed. Read and interpret EKGs, chest X‑rays, and echocardiograms; order necessary studies and ancillary services. Prescribe medications and treatment plans within payer coverage and industry standards. Serve as the final medical judge for health care decisions for paneled patients. Provide patient education on heart disease, wellness, and prevention; support CHF clinics and related initiatives. Collaborate with the Medical Director, Cardiology, and risk and quality management programs to ensure guideline compliance and improve clinical value. Participate in clinical rounds, conferences, and daily huddles to facilitate team communication. Assist in hiring, training, and mentoring dedicated cardiology Care Promoters, Nurse Practitioners, and Physician Assistants. Perform other duties as assigned, including quality improvement and cost‑reduction initiatives. Leadership and Administrative Functions Lead a cardiovascular care team that may include Care Promoters, Echocardiogram and X‑ray Technicians, or mid‑level providers. Coach and mentor PCPs and clinicians in cardiology management. Develop and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including providers and health facilities. Attend bi‑monthly Cardiology Service Line meetings and participate in market quality improvement initiatives. Organizational Relationships Reports to the Associate Chief Medical Officer or Chief Medical Officer, with indirect reporting to the Medical Director of Cardiology. Direct reports may include allied health staff such as Care Promoters and technical support personnel. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Extensive knowledge of pharmacologic agents for cardiovascular patients. Superior clinical skills in senior patient care across all care environments. Excellent communication, relationship‑building, and conflict‑resolution skills. Analytical ability to manage results and performance metrics. Proficiency with electronic medical records and Microsoft Office applications. Willingness to travel locally, regionally, or nationwide up to 15% of the time. Education and Experience Requirements Board certification or board eligibility in Cardiology (required); board certification in Internal Medicine is a plus. Current, valid medical license and DEA license. BLS certification required; ACLS certification strongly preferred. Demonstrated experience supervising providers and clinical staff. Experience providing services in a managed‑care environment is preferred. Pay Range $278,575 – $397,963 per year; compensation may also include bonuses or commissions based on performance and location.
