Job Overview RWJBarnabas Health is seeking a highly dedicated Director of Nursing leading the Post Intensive Care Unit-II at RWJUH Somerset. Qualifications Licensed and currently registered as a professional nurse in the State of New Jersey Master’s degree required 2-5 years relevant clinical practice 1-2 years related management experience Membership in professional organizations Successful completion of all orientation programs Demonstrated leadership ability Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Knowledgeable and supportive of the mission and role of RWJBarnabas Health and awareness of current social, political, and financial trends that affect nursing care delivery Scheduling Requirements Full Time 40 hours per week Essential Functions Maintains positive relationships with all customers, employees, physicians, patients, visitors, and guests Utilizes a variety of feedback to improve processes and services to meet and exceed customer needs Uses sound employee relations practices and maintains high levels of visibility and accessibility Follows through on all customer requests and inquiries in a timely fashion Utilizes principles of CQI in all work situations Seeks feedback and recommendations from others to improve the quality, processes, and services Contributes to improving quality services and productivity by continually evaluating one’s work, reporting problems, suggesting solutions, and trying new ideas Effectively allocates and schedules resources Able to project and appropriately staff the unit/department to effectively function to demand Utilizes resources, both labor and non-labor, to maximize efficiency and quality Adheres to budgetary guidelines and targets—proactively manages budget variances and causes Determines priorities and organizes work and time to meet them Follows sound employee retention techniques; effective selection and interviewing, recognition, fair and timely discipline, and ongoing performance feedback Interacts constructively, tactfully, and diplomatically with others and resolves conflicts effectively Demonstrates cultural competency and ability to maintain a diverse workforce Collaborates with Nursing Quality Management Coordinator and Department of Quality Resource Management to provide a mechanism of ensuring quality patient care and departmental compliance with the quality assurance plan Interfaces as the representative for Patient Care Services with other departments/committees to facilitate processes for quality patient care Develops appropriate patient satisfaction strategies, evaluates trends, and facilitates education of patient care areas on appropriate strategies Utilizes performance improvement methodologies effectively; continuously seeks opportunity for improvement and facilitates process in an interdisciplinary manner Guides and supports nurse managers in developing their leadership skills and the developmental needs of their staff Maintains level of knowledge of current healthcare trends through continuous education and participation at meetings both internally and externally Confers with Director of Nursing Education and Research in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of educational programs to meet the needs of patients, families, and staff Assures level of competency meets standards established and directs plans of action for deficiencies Participates in Patient Services strategic planning processes; analyzes patient care direction, performance, systems and operations to facilitate recommendations for change and improvement Facilitates operational excellence in patient services and across the departments Coordinates TJC initiatives with the Patient Care Services Department Acts as a liaison with regulatory agencies as required Assures appropriate 24‑hour coverage for nursing and administrative issues through evening/night supervisors Provides weekend coverage on a routine basis; assumes responsibility for the VP, Patient Services in his/her absence Other Duties Please note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties, or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job.
