Position Nurse Manager – Emergency Department, Full Time (Evenings/Nights) Position Summary The Nurse Manager is responsible for the day-to‑day leadership and coordination of nursing operations within the assigned clinical area to ensure the safe, effective, and compliant delivery of patient care. The role integrates clinical practice oversight with operational management, ensuring that nursing care is planned, delivered, and evaluated in accordance with established standards of care, regulatory requirements, and organizational policies. The Nurse Manager oversees clinical activities, workflows and staffing to support consistent implementation of the nursing process and to promote quality, safety, and patient‑centered outcomes. Essential Responsibilities / Duties Provide unit‑level leadership and operational oversight to ensure consistent delivery of safe, high‑quality patient care. Supervise and manage assigned clinical and non‑clinical staff, direct daily operations, assign work, monitor performance, and address workforce issues per personnel policies, labor agreements and budgetary parameters. Coordinate staffing and scheduling activities to support patient care needs, maintain appropriate coverage, and ensure compliance with departmental standards and applicable labor contracts. Oversee clinical practice and care coordination to ensure the nursing process is consistently applied, patient flow is efficient and resources are used effectively. Identify, address and elevate operational, staffing and patient care issues in collaboration with the Nurse Director and other partners. Support quality, safety and performance improvement initiatives, including unit‑based quality activities, risk management and research, while monitoring compliance with applicable laws, regulations and accreditation requirements. Promote and sustain staff competency and unit readiness through education, orientation and competency‑based assignments, and contribute to preceptorship and unit‑based training programs. Serve as a clinical and operational resource within the unit, maintaining situational awareness of patient care needs and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams; provide direct patient care as required to support unit operations. Job Requirements Education: Graduate of an accredited baccalaureate nursing program (BSN) required. Licenses & Certifications: Active Massachusetts RN license. Additional specialty certifications may be required. Experience: Minimum of three years of clinical experience, including at least two years in a unit with a similar patient population. Knowledge & Skills: Analytical and organizational skills for supervising staff and developing, implementing, and evaluating policies and standards; strong interpersonal and leadership skills to mentor, train and collaborate in a team environment; clear verbal and written communication skills in English; basic computer proficiency for accessing, entering, and interpreting electronic information. Compensation Compensation Range: $90,500.00 – $131,500.00 (inclusive of base pay and may vary based on education, experience, skills and certifications).
