Overview This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) - a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply. Qualifications To qualify for this position you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed VA physicians who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation. United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA policy Doctor of Medicine (MD) or equivalent degree from an approved school Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a US state/territory/commonwealth or DC Residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty program leading to eligibility for board certification Approved residencies include: (1) ACGME; (2) AOA; or (3) other residencies with appropriate US-based practice experience as deemed by the local Medical Staff Executive Committee Residents enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited programs may be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs); PRPs must be fully licensed and may be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis PRPs are not independent practitioners and will not be privileged Additional requirement: Board certification in cardiovascular medicine and interventional cardiology is preferred; experience of at least 5 years performing coronary interventions is preferred Proficiency in spoken and written English Physical requirements: visual acuity, hearing, clear speech, and manual dexterity; ability to walk, stand, stoop, sit, bend, pull, and push for long periods Ability to transfer patients and objects; may be exposed to infectious materials and may wear protective clothing Ability to work in potentially stressful situations; must complete annual Employee Health requirements (e.g., TB screening) Duties Provide direct patient care within the full scope of interventional cardiology including percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), IVUS, FFR, diagnostic cardiac catheterization, temporary pacemaker placement, pericardiocentesis, and placement of cardiac assist devices (e.g., Impella, IABP) Participate in general cardiology care: outpatient care, diagnostic interpretation, and treatment planning Interpret and report cardiology studies: ECG, Echo, Holter, Stress tests Perform minor procedures as credentialed: Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE) and elective cardioversions Engage in full scope of interventional cardiology and general cardiology management for Veterans Write orders for diagnostics, prescribe medications, and consult with other specialties; utilize electronic medical records Preoperative cardiovascular risk assessment, prevention-focused care, and chronic disease management Provide clinical oversight and guidance to mid-level providers and trainees Tele-Health capabilities and competency in interpreting ECGs, Echos, ambulatory EKGs, and implant device interrogations Maintain inpatient/urgent/emergent consultative proficiency #J-18808-Ljbffr
