PRN Psychiatrist – Metropolitan Detention Center – On‑Site UNM Medical Group, Inc. is seeking a PRN (0.01 FTE) staff physician to serve as an MDC Site Psychiatrist. The psychiatrist will provide on‑site psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for inmates referred by medical or clinical services staff. Written summaries of history, diagnosis and treatment course will be prepared. Staff psychiatrists report directly to the site Psychiatric Director. Minimum Job Requirements Graduate of an accredited medical school and completed an appropriate psychiatric residency. Fully licensed to practice medicine in the state of employment. Current DEA registration. Preferably board certified or board eligible to practice psychiatry and has administrative experience in corrections medicine. Duties and Responsibilities Provide onsite psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for inmates referred by medical or clinical services staff. Provide written summaries of history, diagnosis and treatment course in accordance with national standards and the McClendon Agreement. When applicable, provide psychiatric services for inpatients and staff for treatment planning and regular review of all assigned inmates; provide services for all inmates referred to the Healthcare Unit and for those in the general population needing regular psychiatric/mental‑health follow up. When applicable, provide psychiatric services for inmates who need transfer to mental‑health facilities, including work‑up and any court‑hearing testimony needed. When applicable, act as a regular psychiatrist and participate in treatment programming and planning for the Mental Health Unit. Involve regular staffing and contact with Mental Health Unit staff and supervisor, discuss problem cases, follow‑up and monitor medication, and provide general psychiatric input. Provide medication management to all inmates admitted to the Mental Health Unit and give individual and/or group therapy as appropriate. Approve all admissions and discharges into the Mental Health Unit; sign and monitor the implementation and efficiency of treatment plans. Provide in‑service education to the Mental Health Unit staff as needed. Be available on a scheduled basis for on‑call needs of the Mental Health Unit. Participate in the Treatment Audit Committee. Attend meetings as directed by jail administration. Physical Requirements Employees must be able to perform the following: Exert up to 50 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects including a human body. Occasionally kneel, stoop, crouch, or crawl; frequent walking throughout the site, including flights of stairs. Maintain sufficient strength, agility, and endurance to perform during stressful (physical, mental, and emotional) situations encountered on the job.
