Unit Unit: School Of Medicine Department Department: Ob Gyn Department Mission The mission of the Obstetrics andGynecology department is to provide the highest quality clinicalcare in both general and specialty Obstetrics and Gynecology tocentral Virginia. In addition to the clinical mission, thedepartment has the allied goals of providing undergraduate andgraduate medical education in the field and advancing the fieldthrough basic and clinical research. Department faculty have a responsibility to provide service totheir profession and to the University Community Chief Purpose The Department of Obstetrics andGynecology is seeking qualified candidates to provide specialtycare in General Obstetrics and Gynecology at VCU Health. Thisposition is designed to provide care primarily in GeneralObstetrics on the Labor and Delivery Unit. This laborist positionwill be primarily shift work with both night and day shifts.Candidates should practice the full scope of obstetric services.This position will include participation in student and residenteducation as well as in the department’s clinical researchactivities. Responsibilities Teaching The faculty member will have teachingresponsibilities to include actively participating in thedepartment’s educational activities, with particular attention toeducating students and residents in their core educationalobjectives while on the labor and delivery unit. Research The person filling this position isencouraged to initiate clinical research projects, but this is nota strict requirement for the position. They are expected toparticipate in and facilitate other department research andcontribute to scholarly publications/presentations. Service The faculty member will serve on departmental,health system, and university committees as necessary, as well asin a professional capacity in their field. The faculty member willbe assigned to committees at the discretion of the divisiondirector and department chair. Clinical Full participation in the clinical activitiesrelated to inpatient obstetrics. Clinical activities are to bedetermined by the general obstetrics and gynecology division headand are expected to include inpatient care, surgery, andparticipation in nighttime shift duties. Other The faculty member will participate indepartment and institutional administrative activities as assignedby the division head and department chair. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Completion of an ACGME accredited OB/GYN residency Eligible for Virginia medical license Potential for scholarship or creative expression to complementand expand existing expertise in the Department of Obstetrics andGynecology Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment ofrespect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty,staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or acommitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
