Job Summary The Director manages, supervises and coordinates the activities of the Radiology Department. This position is responsible for the operation of the department, developing programs and staff members to meet the needs of the hospital. Develops and implements policies and procedures of Radiology that guide and support the provision of services. Reviews and updates as per hospital policies. Assigns workers to perform studies, conduct radiology procedures, and monitor department activities to ensure efficiency and accuracy of procedures. Implements computer protocols for diagnostic studies as approved by the Medical Director. Develops protocols for new and revised procedures and trains department workers in overall operation of department and use of equipment with the assistance of the lead tech and approved by the Medical Director. Implements and supervises radiation safety policies and procedures to ensure safety of personnel and legal requirements are met for handling and disposing of radioactive materials. Assists in coordinating activities with other departments and in resolving operating problems. Coordinates the interactions of the department with other hospital departments. Prepares all of the statistical reports of the department. Develops policies and procedures for the department and ensures the proper maintenance of records, manuals, and quality control measures. Selects, evaluates and disciplines department staff. Participates in the selection and monitors the care and maintenance of all equipment and supplies. Develops policies and procedures that govern the use and availability of the department services and supervises the charge and daily reconciliation process. Determines topics to be addressed and monitored for quality of care of the department. Supervises all departmental compliance with regulatory standards as well as other governmental regulations for licensure and safety. Develops and implements techniques, programs, problem identification, and continuing QAPI activities directed to improve patient care. Reviews the purchase of capital equipment as needed for the department. Reviews the monthly employee work schedule, maintaining the ratio of procedures to man hours. Promotes safety awareness in the department and follows proper procedures in reporting all on duty employee injuries. Reports all safety hazards to the Safety Committee for follow-up. Counsels department personnel in situations that need clarification. Attends meetings to ascertain hospital policies, assists in their development, presents and interprets these policies to the staff. Assumes responsibility for departmental personnel matters pertaining to the employment, training, termination and grievances of employees. Continuing Education - Stay updated on advancements in interventional radiology technology, techniques, and safety practices through ongoing education and training programs. Performs other assigned duties as required. Supervisory Responsibilities This position supervises the Radiology department. Required Education Bachelor's degree in Radiology, or health related field. Required Experience Minimum of three years in a supervisory capacity. Experience in preparing and planning department budgets, in-service education. Current knowledge of laws and regulations related to the areas of Radiology Services and Healthcare Services. Required Licenses and Certifications Current Florida Radiologic Technologist license. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to assess the needs of a job function and adjust accordingly. Understand and use scientific and technical language and symbols. Recognize slight differences in shape, color, and texture. Work precisely and accurately. Follow technical instructions which may be oral, written, or in the form of charts or drawings. Use measurable and verifiable information for making decisions or judgments. Experience and knowledge about the various equipment maintenance techniques and equipment within the department. Should be familiar with work and limitations of various crafts, particularly licensed workers who are employed in the Radiology Department. Ability to give instructions and to supervise staff.
