Pediatric Audiologist NYC Health + Hospitals Position Summary The Pediatric Audiologist provides comprehensive audiological services to infants, children, and adolescents within the NYC Health + Hospitals system. This role focuses on early identification, diagnosis, and management of hearing and related communication disorders, and includes close collaboration with families, physicians, and interdisciplinary pediatric teams to support optimal speech, language, educational, and social development. Key Responsibilities Perform developmentally appropriate pediatric hearing evaluations, including behavioral audiometry, tympanometry, otoacoustic emissions (OAE), and auditory evoked potential testing. Interpret test results, establish audiologic diagnoses, and prepare clear, timely documentation and reports for referring providers, schools, and caregivers. Determine candidacy for hearing aids, bone-anchored devices, and cochlear implants; perform selection, fitting, programming, verification, and ongoing adjustment for pediatric patients. Provide habilitative and rehabilitative services, including auditory training, communication strategies, and regular monitoring of auditory, speech, and language progress. Counsel and educate parents and caregivers regarding test results, treatment options, realistic expectations, communication strategies, and available community and educational resources. Participate in newborn hearing screening follow-up and other pediatric screening programs, including rescreening, diagnostic evaluations, and tracking of at-risk children. Collaborate with pediatricians, otolaryngologists (ENTs), speech-language pathologists, teachers of the deaf, early intervention providers, and school personnel to develop and implement coordinated care and educational plans. Contribute to family-centered care by creating a child-friendly testing environment and adapting assessment strategies based on age, developmental level, and behavioral needs. Maintain accurate clinical documentation and comply with institutional, regulatory, and billing requirements. Participate in quality improvement, program development, and, as appropriate, supervision or mentoring of students, externs, or junior staff. Minimum Qualifications Doctoral degree in Audiology (AuD or equivalent) from an accredited program. Current New York State Audiology License (or eligibility at time of hire). Completion of required supervised clinical experience and clinical fellowship as applicable. Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR certification (or ability to obtain within required timeframe). Prior clinical experience providing audiologic services to pediatric patients in hospital, clinic, or related settings. Preferred Qualifications Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology (CCC-A) or equivalent national certification. Pediatric Audiology Specialty Certification (PASC) or demonstrated advanced training and experience in pediatric audiology. Experience with newborn hearing screening follow-up, cochlear implant evaluation and programming, and management of medically complex or developmentally delayed children.
