Overview The Venkatesh Lab at Mass General Brigham is seeking a highly motivated lab technician to support research in cancer neuroscience, focusing on the electrical components of disease pathophysiologies. The role involves maintaining laboratory equipment, preparing and handling samples, conducting experiments, and recording and analyzing data. Responsibilities Perform laboratory experiments following established protocols. Prepare and handle samples, reagents, and solutions with accuracy and safety. Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, conduct routine calibration and troubleshooting. Record experimental data accurately and maintain organized records. Compile and analyze data using appropriate statistical and analytical methods. Assist in data interpretation and presentation of research findings. Research Support (70%) Operate specialized instruments such as sliding microtomes, vibratomes, and cryostats to prepare tissue sections. Perform routine cell culture techniques, including cell passage, freezing, and thawing. Analyze and quantify microscopy results to support project goals and reporting. Perform molecular biology techniques such as virus production, primerdesign, molecular cloning, and transfection. Conduct Western blotting, viral transduction, and next-generationsequencing (NGS). Assist in microscopy imaging, including confocal and fluorescencemicroscopy. Learn, master, and implement surgical techniques commonly used inpreclinical models. Optimize and troubleshoot immunofluorescence, immunohistochemistry, andin situ hybridization protocols. Mouse Husbandry (20%) Maintain and care for laboratory mice including breeding, weaning, eartagging, and allocation. Maintain updated mouse records and report census to supervisors. Perform necropsy and tissue harvesting from various mouse models. Lab Upkeep (10%) Maintain a clean and organized work environment and proper storage ofreagents, cells, and samples. Manage laboratory inventories, including ordering reagents andmaintaining stock levels. Receive, store, and document reagents/packages. Assist in ensuring compliance with institutional biosafety, animalcare, and chemical safety regulations. Help maintain accurate lab documentation, including protocols,experimental records, and safety data sheets. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in biology or related life sciences. 1–2 years of laboratory experience (academic coursework, internships,or employment). Demonstrated experience with tissue culture and aseptic technique. Experience with rodent handling, husbandry, and animal experiments. Proficiency in molecular techniques, particularly cloning and transfection. Ability to design, execute, and troubleshoot protocols and experimentsacross multiple projects. Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability tomultitask and prioritize. Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
