Description A unique opportunity to transform the region’s highly specialized pediatric infrastructure as Chair of the Department of Pediatrics for the Foster School of Medicine (FSOM) at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso (TTUHSC El Paso). The Chair will serve as the academic and clinical leader of the Department and report directly to the Dean of the Foster School of Medicine. Located in El Paso, one of the safest, fastest growing cities in the United States, TTUHSC El Paso serves a unique patient population. The Chair will articulate and execute a bold, forward‑looking vision that advances excellence in graduate and undergraduate medical education while elevating the quality, scope, and impact of clinical services within the Department of Pediatrics. This leader will strengthen and expand the department’s scholarly activity—fostering innovative research, faculty development, and academic productivity—to enhance its regional and national prominence. The Department of Pediatrics currently includes 36 faculty members, 39 residents, and 56 staff members, supported by an annual operating budget of $17 million. Revenue streams include clinical services through the medical practice income plan, contracts with community partners, and funding from hospital affiliates. Qualifications – Chair of Pediatrics M.D. or D.O. degree, or equivalent degree Texas medical license, or eligibility for Texas medical licensure Board certification in Pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics or the American Osteopathic Board of Pediatrics and, if applicable, in a pediatric subspecialty The ideal candidate will possess an academic rank of Associate Professor or higher and be an academically active leader, remaining so during their tenure Leadership experience at the level of department chair, vice‑chair, division chief, medical director, program director, or comparable role Demonstrated experience as a practicing clinician in an academic medical center Distinguished record of clinical care, teaching, and scholarship Experience in growing revenue, meeting budgets, assessing clinical and economic performance, and strengthening a department is preferred Experience and understanding of undergraduate medical education and graduate medical education program requirements Demonstrated experience working in partnership with a freestanding children’s hospital, hospital‑employed physician groups, and community‑based pediatric physicians and providers is preferred Application Instructions Confidential expressions of interest, including a CV and letter of interest, should be submitted to TTUHSC El Paso’s executive search partner, Eric Dickerson, at and/or or by calling .
