Unit: School Of Medicine Department: Family Medicine This position will be based at VCU Health Community Memorial Hospital in South Hill, Virginia. VCU Health Community Memorial Hospital is a small, rural communityhospital that provides a wide range of subspecialty care to a largeregion. In 2017, VCU Health System built a beautiful, brand-newhospital that is both aesthetically and clinically spectacular. Thefamily medicine residency clinic is attached to the hospital. Ourdepartment provides newborn nursery and inpatient pediatricscoverage. Current inpatient volumes are approximately 300deliveries and 50 pediatrics admissions per calendar year. Highacuity cases are transferred to a higher level of care. July 1,2025, CMH welcomed its first class of family medicine residents. The residents spend their first year of training at our main campusin Richmond, approximately 75 miles to our north, and spend theirsecond and third years in South Hill. Mission, History & Programs of the Department Founded in 1970, the Department of Family Medicine and PopulationHealth at VCU has a long and proud history of training medicalstudents and resident physicians. Our department houses our familymedicine medical student education programs, including a highlyrated clerkship and two longitudinal, four-year track programs. Ourdepartment is one of the top ten in the nation for family medicineresearch. We have four affiliated family medicine residency programs atvarious locations around the Commonwealth of Virginia in additionto our new VCU Health Community Memorial Hospital Family MedicineResidency, which will graduate its first class in 2027. Chief Purpose of the Position As the Program Directorand Core Faculty, you will work with the Associate Program Directorto support the needs of our residents and core faculty. You willspend a majority of your time on precepting, direct resident andmedical student education in both the inpatient and outpatientsettings, and educational administration. The remaining time willbe devoted to your own direct clinical practice. This position willbe primarily based at VCU’s Community Memorial Hospital in SouthHill, VA; while the Associate Program Director is located primarilyon the MCV Campus of VCU Health in Richmond, VA. Responsibilities include: Demonstrates dedication to Family Medicine Education Responsible for monitoring the faculty appointments,assignments, outcomes, and proper conduct of educationalactivities Responsible for the supervision, direction, evaluation, andadministration of the Family Medicine Education Program Responsibilities for the Family Medicine Program include: Provide direction and leadership necessary to obtain and/ormaintain the Family Medicine Residency Program with Full ResidencyReview Committee Accreditation Conduct ongoing review of the residency program as required byRRC and ACGME Participate with the Department Chair and other ResidencyLeadership in recruiting and making recommendations for improvementin the educational programs within the Department of FamilyMedicine and Population Health and within the entire VCU Healthsystems Assure that services are performed in accordance with andsufficient for compliance with the requirements of all requiredaccrediting bodies such as the Accreditation Council for GraduateMedical Education, the Joint Commission on the Accreditation ofHealthcare Organizations, the Commonwealth of Virginia, and theSystem’s liability carrier Continual improvement of the Family Medicine ResidencyProgram Serve as a member of VCU Health’s Graduate Medical EducationCouncil Perform such duties as are appropriate and necessary to theposition and operation of the VCU Health Systems and the FamilyMedicine Residency Program Recruit, retain, and promote high caliber, diverse residentswho exhibit interest and commitment to rural healthcare, healthequity, excellence in patient care and medical education, highethics, and a commitment to a high order of professionalism Participate in the budgeting process for the residencyprogram Review clinical teaching and scholarship of each facultymembers individually and annually. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Ability to obtain license to practice medicine in theCommonwealth of Virginia Shall have completed an accredited residency program in FamilyMedicine Shall be certified and recertified by the American Board ofFamily Medicine Five or more years of Family Medicine Practice Three to five years of experience as faculty in a FamilyMedicine Residency Training Program Experience in providing direct patient care to underservedpopulations across multiple settings Willing and able to participate in neonatal resuscitation,newborn nursery, and to admit and care for pediatric inpatients,shared call for a low volume service. We provide proctoredonboarding to the inpatient setting. Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment ofrespect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty,staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or acommitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
