Full/Part Time Status: Full Time Position Description: The Department of Neurology at the University of Iowa Health Care is seeking a board‑certified/eligible Neurologist with a specialization in treating Neuromuscular disease to be appointed as a Clinical, Research or Tenure Track faculty member at any rank. Successful candidates will also be involved in a full range of educational and mentoring activities for students, residents, and fellows through the division’s educational programs. Clinical Activities: Providing tertiary‑level services in a busy MDA clinic, CMT clinic, and an MDA/ALS multidisciplinary clinic. Sharing weekday, weekend and holiday coverage of inpatient and consult services. The division currently has four other Neuromuscular Neurologists on staff, two Neurogenetic Counselors, two dedicated RNs, and one Medical Assistant. The department has highly respected EMG and neuropathology services and works closely with the Pediatric Neuromuscular Division. All Neurologists who are members of the faculty group share coverage, and the department will work closely with the candidate to optimize time in an area of interest. The overall philosophy of this neurology department is the provision of comprehensive patient‑centered care in inpatient and outpatient settings and across a variety of unique subspecialty practice settings within the healthcare system. Academic Environment The Department of Neurology includes more than 40 full‑time faculty members who provide leadership across many neurology areas, including Cognitive Neurology, Cerebrovascular Disease, Clinical Electrophysiology, Epilepsy, Movement Disorders, Neuroimmunology/MS, Neuromuscular Disease, Neuropsychology, and Sleep Disorders. The department has a long tradition of excellence in research, a well‑developed research infrastructure, and an ample patient population that supports diverse investigations. Education Requirements MD or DO degrees and eligibility for an unrestricted Iowa medical license. Board Certification Board certified or board eligible. Required Qualifications Commitment to patient care, teaching, and scholarly professional activities. Demonstrated experience in teaching medical students, residents, and fellows. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Desirable Qualifications Demonstrated interest and success in clinical, translational, or basic research. Demonstrated experience working effectively in a welcoming and respectful workplace environment. Additional consideration for candidates with significant teaching or leadership experience.
