Position Title Medical Hematologist/Oncologist Number of Vacancies 1 Scope of Job Provide clinical expertise in patient care management and an appropriate teaching environment for fellows, residents, and students. Practice clinical cancer medicine in an exemplary manner in standards set forth by the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners and the American College of Physicians, properly balanced with other academic activities. Must be capable of providing complete and thorough history and physical examinations, and perform invasive procedures as dictated by the physician’s subspecialty. This may require standing, bending, stooping, lifting, hearing, manual dexterity, and clear and concise verbal communications. Develop and maintain a clinical practice for patients referred to UT Health RGV. Provide physician staffing for the out‑patient clinic and in‑patient services at a level commensurate with that which would be provided by other oncology staff/internists with the same level of training and experience. Serve as a role model practitioner for faculty, fellows, residents, and students. Actively engage in clinical research and scholarly activities to enhance the academic environment. Develop programs of clinical research and scholarly activities as assigned. May necessitate instructing, through written or verbal communication, research support personnel in protocol implementation. Seek appropriate funding mechanisms to support clinical research. Minimum Qualifications MD degree in Internal Medicine with Board Certification in hematology, oncology or hematology & oncology. Must possess or be eligible for a Texas Medical License and be qualified for an appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor at an LCME accredited medical school. Discipline Specific Required Qualifications Completed an accredited hematology, oncology or hematology & oncology fellowship. Preferred Qualifications At least 1 year post completion of fellowship training. License or Certification Required Yes. Compensation Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
