Job Description Physician II performs advanced clinical work in a state hospital, providing medical treatment to patients through comprehensive exams, history, diagnostic evaluations, treatment planning, and supervision of staff. The role involves independent judgment, clinical supervision, and participation in disaster response and continuity operations. Essential Job Functions (EJFs) Attend work regularly, meet shift schedules including rotating, extended, and overtime as required. Provide medical treatment, conduct physical exams, diagnostic evaluations, and document medical histories. Review and interpret test results, order additional diagnostics, refer to specialists when appropriate. Prescribe and administer treatments, monitor progress, and document justification and course of treatment. Consult with multidisciplinary team to ensure comprehensive health care. Participate in quality assessment, performance improvement, equipment and staff recommendations. Provide clinical supervision of staff and assist in staff training. Contribute to research protocols, serve on Institutional Review Board (IRB) as requested. Provide treatment for minor injuries to state hospital employees in employment context. Assist in disaster response or COOP activation as needed. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs) Knowledge of medical methods, procedures and trends. Skill in problem identification, analysis, and resolution. Ability to examine, diagnose, and treat physical or mental disorders. Ability to interpret laboratory analyses and X‑rays. Ability to supervise the work of others. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to collaborate with individuals, peers, and community professionals. Ability to evaluate patients and implement effective treatment in coordination with interdisciplinary personnel. Registrations, Licensure Requirements or Certifications Licensed Physician by The Texas Medical Board. Current registration certificate from Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA). National Provider Identifier (NPI) and enrollment as Medicaid and Medicare Part B provider. Initial Screening Criteria Graduation from an accredited medical school with an MD degree. Completion of residency accredited by ACGME. Two years of clinical or public health work experience. Additional Requirements Pass fingerprint criminal background check, pre‑employment drug screen, and registry checks (CANRS, Nurse Aid, Medication Aide, Employee Misconduct, LEIE). Comply with HHSC immunization policy and state hospital immunization procedures. May require flexible hours, overtime, extended shifts, and travel up to 10%.
