As a Special Education teacher, you will be responsible to teach students who have a wide range of learning and emotional disabilities. You will adapt lessons to accommodate students with mild and moderate disabilities.Assess students to evaluate their abilities, strengths, and weaknessesTeach students as an entire class or in small groupsGrade students' assignments to monitor progressCommunicate with parents about students' progressWork with individual students to challenge them, to improve their abilities, and to work on their weaknessesPrepare students for standardized tests required by the stateDevelop and enforce classroom rulesSupervise students outside of the classroom-for example, at lunchtime or during detention Requirements: Skills and Knowledge:Valid New Jersey Teacher of the Handicapped License or Teacher of Students with DisabilitiesMinimum of 3 years teaching experience in special educationBachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education, Mathematics, or related field Strong mathematics content knowledge (middle school, high school, or as applicable) Experience teaching students with learning differences and/or behavioral needs preferred Ability to modify curriculum and use data to guide instructionExperienced with special needs students and their parentsEffective communicator with strong oral and written skills that work with all audiencesDemonstrate creativity, flexibility, and perseverance in dealing with challenging learning, behavioral, family, and classroom situationsDemonstrate ability to observe, evaluate, report, and record students' performance, behavior, social development, and physical healthKnowledge and demonstration of using innovative skills in instruction (analytical thinking, problem-solving, communicating, collaborating, and finding and evaluating information)Proven at being an active participant in a supportive professional community that fosters respect, trust, risk-taking, open-mindedness, flexibility, collaboration, and continuous improvementMastery of and enthusiasm for academic subjects including a proven track record of high achievement in the classroomEvidence of self-motivation and willingness to be a team playerWorking knowledge of proactive communication with colleagues about scholar needs to ensure integrated supportMaintain confidentialityPM21PI1a7b5-
