Overview Job Posting Title: Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner – Hospitalist Department (Daytime) Hospital Site: Bridgeport Hospital Milford Campus Work Schedule: Day Scheduled Hours: 12-hour shifts - Rotating Position Type: FTE EMR System: EPIC Responsibilities Clinical Care: The Physician Assistant (PA) or the Nurse Practitioner (NP) provides assessment, triage, and therapeutic management of patient/family needs throughout the disease process as part of an interdisciplinary team. The NP/PA, in any setting, provides optimal patient care from diagnostic to prognostic matters. They work with supervising/collaborating physicians, per state law and hospital regulations. May obtain medical histories, perform physical examinations, review/order diagnostic tests, formulate and manage treatment plans, perform procedures, prescribe treatment and medications in accordance with institutional and state guidelines. May act as first or second assistant on operative cases within scope. Other duties include responding to emergencies within YNHHS parameters as needed. Patient Education & Psychosocial Support: Educate patients/families on care and resources, treatment plans, side effects, and discharge plans. Provide psychosocial support as part of a multidisciplinary team. Information Management: Ensure appropriate documentation in accordance with hospital and regulatory requirements and protect patient information. Quality Management: Demonstrate a high standard of moral, ethical behavior, professionalism, compassion; ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. Professional Development: Engage in projects to maintain and advance competency; serve as clinical resource for new staff; report safety events; maintain employee requirements; serve as preceptor and mentor; collaborate on research, quality assurance, and performance improvement projects. Qualifications Graduate from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant Program. Clinical experience in hospitalist or related specialty preferred but not required. Must be appointed to the Affiliated Medical Staff of a YNHHS hospital and credentialed through the Medical Staff process. Evidence of current competence to practice must be provided via reference letters. Licensure For PAs: Active PA Certification (NCCPA), Connecticut PA License, ACLS/BLS Certified, DEA License (if applicable). For NPs: Connecticut RN and NP Licenses, Board Certification, ACLS/BLS Certified, DEA License (if applicable). Additional certifications (e.g., PALS, NRP) may be required based on specialty.
