Physician Assistant Intensivist (Day Shift) Position Number: 1.0 FTE (Full-Time Equivalent) Position Summary The Physician Assistant Intensivist provides advanced clinical care to critically ill patients in the intensive care unit during day shift hours. Working collaboratively with critical care physicians and the multidisciplinary ICU team, the PA manages complex medical conditions, performs procedures, and supports high-acuity patient care across the continuum of critical illness. Key Responsibilities Perform comprehensive patient assessments, including histories, physical examinations, and daily ICU roundsManage critically ill patients under the supervision of an intensivist physicianDevelop, implement, and adjust treatment plans for ICU patientsOrder, interpret, and document diagnostic tests, imaging, and laboratory resultsPerform bedside procedures within scope of practice (e.g., central lines, arterial lines, intubation assistance, chest tubes)Manage ventilators, hemodynamic monitoring, and vasoactive medicationsRespond to clinical deterioration, emergencies, and rapid response eventsCoordinate care with nursing, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, and consulting servicesCommunicate effectively with patients and families regarding condition, treatment plans, and prognosisEnsure accurate, timely documentation in the electronic medical recordParticipate in quality improvement, patient safety, and ICU protocols Schedule Day shift coverageMay include weekends or holidays based on departmental needsNo overnight shifts required unless otherwise specified Patient Population Medical, surgical, and/or mixed ICU patientsConditions may include respiratory failure, sepsis, shock, multi-organ failure, and post-operative critical care Qualifications Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant programCurrent national certification as a Physician AssistantActive or eligible state licensureBLS and ACLS certification requiredPrior ICU, critical care, emergency medicine, or hospital medicine experience preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong critical thinking and clinical judgmentAbility to function effectively in high-acuity, fast-paced environmentsProficiency in ICU procedures and critical care managementExcellent communication and teamwork skillsCommitment to evidence-based, patient-centered care Work Environment Intensive care unit settingRequires standing, walking, lifting, and manual dexterityExposure to high-stress and emergent clinical situations
