Long Island, NY Position SummaryThe Afterschool Assistant helps create a safe, engaging, and supportive environment where children can learn, build relationships, and thrive. This role supports daily program activities, assists children with homework and social development, and contributes to a positive and inclusive After School experience.Key ResponsibilitiesBuild positive relationships with children through play, exploration, and age-appropriate activitiesFoster a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive environment for all participantsSupport children with homework and daily routines as neededCommunicate professionally and respectfully with families, staff, and school personnelAssist in setting up and maintaining program spaces that support safety, engagement, and active supervisionEncourage positive behavior, self-esteem, and social developmentMaintain active supervision and ensure the safety and well-being of all children at all timesParticipate in staff meetings, trainings, and team collaboration opportunitiesComplete all required OCFS trainings and compliance requirementsSupport additional program needs and responsibilities as assignedQualifications1-2 years of experience working with children ages 5-12 preferredHigh school diploma or equivalent requiredMust be willing to complete all required New York State background clearancesStrong communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to work collaboratively in a team environmentStrong organizational skills and ability to multitaskPhysical RequirementsAbility to sit, stand, walk, bend, kneel, and move throughout program spaces for extended periodsAbility to actively supervise children in classrooms, playgrounds, and activity areasAbility to lift and carry supplies or equipment up to 25 poundsWork EnvironmentIndoor and outdoor program environments depending on daily activities and weatherFrequent interaction with children, families, staff, and school personnelActive, fast-paced youth program settingCompensation details: 18-20 Hourly WagePIea45960a1c9f-4955
