Core work hours: Monday‑Friday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Summary Responsible for directing the operations and providing strategic direction for THD's Orthopedic, Neurosciences, and the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Service Lines. The role ensures seamless integration of all operational components, eliminates variation, aligns strategic and operational processes, and maintains compliance with regulatory agencies and accrediting bodies. The director is heavily involved in service‑line development. Job Duties Strategy and Business Development Collaborate with hospital leadership, physicians and key stakeholders to develop strategic, business‑innovation, growth and marketing plans. Articulate strategic plans and tactics to leaders to create alignment and establish priorities. Manage business innovation, growth, outreach, referral development and marketing plans for business unit programs. Collaborate with medical staff and other providers to develop and/or enhance program and service delivery. Identify, review and formulate proposals for business growth opportunities. Establish community relationships that enhance program visibility. Assist with physician recruitment/retention efforts and oversee the orientation process for new physicians/surgeons. Serve as liaison between THD and UTSW Neurosurgery and Physical Medicine and Rehab Clinical Leadership. Partner with Medical Directors to monitor and improve quality and service metrics, aiming for top quartile nationally. Reconcile UTSW Program Guarantees. Operations Develop and implement policies, procedures and guidelines. Ensure compliance with department and hospital policies, safety, infection control, and quality improvement procedures. Coordinate care through interdisciplinary processes and mentor staff. Provide leadership in emergency/crisis situations. Ensure comprehensive documentation, teaching and discharge planning. Implement and monitor QI initiatives to enhance patient care satisfaction, efficiency and safety. Maintain facility, equipment and supply inventories, and coordinate with Engineering, Biomed, Environmental Services, Safety and Risk Management, and Central Supply. Assess space needs and recommend changes to senior management. Participate in hospital safety initiatives and proactively identify opportunities. Prepare and recommend capital and operational budgets; produce monthly variance reports and engage in capital budgeting processes. Implement new systems in response to reimbursement changes and work with Managed Care to ensure adequate contracting. Perform personnel management: interview, hire, appraise, counsel and terminate staff in line with policies. Recruit and retain a high‑quality workforce; provide orientation, continuing education and competency verification. Ensure licensure of personnel and timely completion of performance evaluations. Maintain effective communication, conduct meetings, and inform employees of changes. Collaborate with other THD and THR departments and serve on hospital committees as needed. Fiscal Management Operationally responsible for financial performance, including operating and capital budgeting. Promote activities to reduce costs, enhance revenues and achieve operational efficiency. Manage the approved budget through frequent monitoring and implement action plans for variances. Consider operational outcomes and financial implications when recommending new services or modifying existing programs. Manage staffing levels consistent with volumes. Program Development Develop, implement and evaluate programs and initiatives to meet volume, financial, quality and service standards. Initiate and implement programs in response to identified market needs. Collaborate with physicians, Department Chairs and Medical Directors; assess program strength and implement changes for viability. Market current and new programs to maintain and improve volumes. Monitor technological development and trends; make recommendations to the Information Systems division. Participate in strategic market development, philanthropic and operational plans for new and existing programs. Perform financial, operational and quality assessments of proposed and existing programs. Establish community relationships that enhance program visibility. Leadership and Professional Duties Demonstrate leadership effectiveness by providing a positive work environment and being visible and accessible to staff on all shifts. Exemplify service excellence and recovery behaviors. Assess own training needs and develop an employee development plan. Mentor and train staff members to meet clinical, quality and efficiency needs. Facilitate the development of leadership skills in department staff. Education Bachelor’s Degree in a rehab‑related field (required). Master’s Degree in a professional field, Business Administration or Healthcare Administration (preferred). Experience 5 years of hospital management experience (required). Experience in service‑line development is highly preferred. Licenses and Certifications PT – Physical Therapist, or OT – Occupational Therapist, or SLP – Speech–Language Pathology (required upon hire). Skills Computer skills and excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to work with multidisciplinary skilled staff.
