Full Professor & Chair – Department of Social & Behavioral Health (R ) The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for a Full Professor and Chair of the Department of Social & Behavioral Health in the School of Public Health. The department chair serves as the academic component leader, managing day‑to‑day operations, advancing teaching and research, and aligning departmental goals with those of the School and University. Responsibilities Maintain a collegial and inclusive environment for faculty and staff. Serve as liaison between the department and the Dean, representing the department’s interests and communicating university decisions. Lead the development and implementation of immediate and long‑range departmental goals, strategies, and curricula in partnership with faculty. Teach one course per semester (fall and spring). Participate in service on the Council of Chairs and other school‑wide initiatives. Manage the department’s finances, budget requests, and advisory boards. Ensure effective implementation of university, school, and department policies, including assessment, accreditation, and other academic initiatives. Recruit, retain, and evaluate faculty, making recommendations for promotion, tenure, salary, and leaves. Supervise staff, student grievances, and quality of instruction; preside over department meetings. Monitor academic progress of students and maintain accurate faculty and student records. Represent the department at official university and school events. Demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of faculty and students from diverse backgrounds. Perform additional duties as assigned by the Dean. Qualifications PhD in Public Health, Health Promotion, Health Behavior, Community Health, or a related accredited field. Previous leadership experience as a Graduate Coordinator, Program Coordinator, or Center Director. Experience mentoring junior faculty and a strong portfolio of external funding. Demonstrated work with diverse communities to address health disparities. Credentials must be obtained prior to the start date. Preferred: Prior experience as a Departmental Chair; research expertise in health communications, mixed methods, or qualitative research designs.
