Job Overview The Lead Surgical Technologist performs technical skills related to intraoperative patient care. The Lead Surgical Technologist is generally assigned to perform the scrub role in various surgical procedures and also performs routine unit tasks. They provide emergency care measures as appropriate, and assist in meeting the patient's emotional needs. The Lead Surgical Technologist follows universal precautions, safe handling guidelines, and all other infection control standards. The Lead Surgical Technologist provides for safety/security of self and others and follows special precautions as related to patient care. They maintain a clean/organized perioperative unit. The Lead Surgical Technologist promotes a positive attitude toward staff, families, and patient/guests while maintaining patient confidentiality. The Lead Surgical Technologist is an unclassified professional staff position working under direct supervision of PCC-RN and under the general supervision of Perioperative Managers. The Lead Surgical Technologist performs all tasks in a manner that is cost effective without compromising quality of care, meets hospital continuing education and certification requirements, and upholds goals and objectives of the Department of Perioperative Services. The Lead Surgical Technologist contributes to organizational effectiveness and demonstrates career growth and development. The Lead Surgical Technologist works variable rotating shifts as assigned on a rotating basis. Minimum Qualifications Must be a high school graduate or possess the GED. Must have completed formal Surgical Technology Training Program or the equivalent. Must hold CST or TS-C certification. A minimum of 2 years of surgical technology experience required. On–going Qualifications Demonstrates competency to meet essential job functions. Maintains knowledge related to patient care issues, quality improvement and cost reduction, current policies, procedures, and protocols. Meets mandatory educational and health requirements. Patient Population Served Adolescents (14-17 years), Neonates (0-6 months), Children (7 months – 13 years), Adults (18 – 64 years), Geriatrics (65+ years). Final candidates are subject to successful completion of a background check. A drug screen or physical may be required during the post offer process.
