Position Summary The Director of Nursing Informatics leads and develops the nursing informatics team while guiding the strategic and operational use of clinical information systems across the health system. This role partners with nursing, clinical, and IT leadership to plan, implement, and optimize technology that supports clinical workflows, patient safety, and quality care. The director serves as a liaison between clinical operations and information systems to ensure technology solutions align with organizational goals and regulatory standards. The director evaluates system performance, promotes effective adoption of new functionality, and supports cost‑effective improvements. The role also provides clinical informatics leadership for enterprise initiatives and facilitates multidisciplinary collaboration on technology projects. Essential Responsibilities / Duties Personnel Management & Training – Oversee assigned staff, promote guidance and developmental opportunities, resolve grievances, foster a team‑oriented environment, develop, coach, and mentor staff for future leadership roles, monitor productivity and performance, and manage the full employee life cycle. Leadership – Provide leadership in the advancement of the nursing informatics department, assist in the creation of annual goals and evaluation of outcomes, build relationships with technical, clinical, and operational leadership, drive utilization and enhancement of clinical systems to support evidence‑based practice, lead interdisciplinary teams and manage projects, support the development and maintenance of enterprise‑wide policy and procedures, and provide clinical expertise in analysis, design, and development of clinical components. Governance/Project Management – Participate in ITS governance processes, ensure nursing initiatives are prioritized, create clear business cases, lead inter‑disciplinary project workgroups, manage project timelines, scope, deliverables, and budgets, report progress, design testing and training plans, and participate in post‑deployment phases. Optimization – Identify opportunities for improving operational and system performance, support optimization of eMERGE (Epic) tools, facilitate the Nursing Informatics Council, collaborate with decision support and business intelligence workgroups, assure nursing metrics and dashboards are available, and identify educational needs for technology use. Professional Development – Present at national and regional conferences, lead efforts to publish outcomes of BMC initiatives, seek opportunities to implement evidence‑based practice, and pursue professional growth activities. Job Requirements Education – Graduate of an accredited baccalaureate program in nursing (required). Master’s degree in Nursing, Management Information Systems, Business Administration, or a related field (required). Equivalent education and experience combinations are acceptable. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations – Active RN license in good standing in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts (required). Formal training in Nursing Informatics and ANCC Informatics certification (required). Epic certification is preferred or obtainable within six months. Experience – Minimum 10 years of health care experience, with at least 3 years in a direct patient care role. Minimum 5 years of nursing informatics experience, including workflow development and system life‑cycle management. 3–5 years as a nurse leader is preferred, along with experience organizing and executing projects that involve internal personnel, contractors, and vendors. Knowledge and Skills – Accomplished leadership and management skills, proven ability to develop staff and achieve results, effective project management capability, collaborative problem‑solving approach, change‑management expertise, deep understanding of clinical workflow and quality improvement practices, knowledge of hospital operations and payment systems, and strong planning, organization, critical thinking, and communication skills. Compensation & Benefits Salary Range: $140,500.00–$204,000.00.
