Job Title Licensed Practical Nurse Department: Emergency Department Reports to Clinical Nurse Manager Revision Date 03/24/2025 Status Non Exempt Job Summary The Emergency Department LPN will work within their licensed scope to assist in providing direct and indirect patient care, including but not limited to monitoring and administering medication while maintaining accurate records and collaborating with the healthcare team. Duties/Responsibilities Must demonstrate expertise in the care of patients from newborn through geriatrics in the emergency setting. Knowledge of Critical Care and the protocol for Cardiac and Respiratory emergencies. Use department-specific and emergency equipment. Organize and prioritize care in order to allow room for emergencies. Perform procedures according to ED standards of nursing practice and patient care. Anticipate potential patient’s crises and inform the RN assigned to LPN for initiation of intervention. Regularly demonstrate knowledge of ACLS and PALS protocols and utilize in-service programs to stay current between biannual certification programs. Regularly demonstrates familiarity of pre-hospital care protocols and EMS system. Uses appropriate documentation to describe patient status, any treatment given and the response to the treatment. "Perform other duties as assigned." Required Skills/Abilities (Unit Specific) Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as active listening skills. Ability to create superior patient experiences while generating positive guest relations in an office setting is required. Ability to work effectively and communicate effectively in a team environment; continuously looking for solutions to improve patient care. Proficiency in medication administration and practiced phlebotomy skills. Professionalism and business acumen appropriate for working with guests, physicians, employees and volunteers. Ability to cost‑effectively be aware in use of resources/supplies. Education and Experience Graduate from an accredited LPN program Must be currently licensed in New York State as a Licensed Practical Nurse Current certification in CPR Unit Specific Orientation Working Conditions Requires frequent walking, standing, bending, lifting, pushing and pulling beds, wheelchairs and recliners in excess of approximately 50 pounds with assistance. Requires lifting, carrying, repositioning, and transferring patients using proper body mechanics. Position requires attendance, as scheduled, to ensure requirements are met. Exposure to blood and body fluids, communicable diseases, chemicals, and infectious/hazardous materials. Occasionally requires assembling, operating, checking, and maintaining equipment. Requires attending meetings as well as participation on committees as required. Actively participates in in‑service programs, in Quality Assurance programs and CQI, cross‑training; attends all mandatory classes as required; completes unit‑specific competencies. Occasionally requires assignments to other units/shifts as hospital needs require. Complies with DOH requirements for annual health assessments and required immunizations. Pay Range: $25.25-$30.30/hour Employee salary is based on commensurate experience and other qualifications.
