Description Examines, diagnoses, and treats hospitalized patients. Manages patients through the continuum of hospital care, seeing patients in the ER and following them into the critical care unit and organizing post‑acute care. Orders treatments, tests, and consults with specialty physicians and primary care physician where appropriate. Performs a variety of tasks. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Travel between hospital locations as necessary. Essential Job Functions Refer patients to medical specialists, social services or other professionals as appropriate. Participate in continuing education activities to maintain or enhance knowledge skills. Direct, coordinate, or supervise the patient care activities of nursing or support services. Write patient discharge summaries and send them to primary care physicians. Communicate with patients' primary care physicians upon discharge to maintain continuity and quality of care. Prescribe medications or treatment regimens to hospital inpatients. Order or interpret the results of tests such as laboratory tests and radiography (x‑rays). Attend inpatient consultations in areas of specialty. Diagnose, treat, or provide continuous care to hospital inpatients. Admit patients for hospital stays. Travel between multiple hospital locations as needed. Other duties as assigned. Competency and Experience Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required Qualifications/Experience Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree Four (4) or seven (7) years of internship and residency training, pertaining to specialty. Strong leadership ability, good organizational skills, independent and critical thinking skills, sound judgment, and knowledge of legal aspects and liability of nursing practice. Strong ability to communicate complex and/or controversial topics and concepts to a wide and diverse audience. Preferred Qualifications/Experience Experience in Healthcare setting. License, Certification & Clearances Current medical license in the state of Pennsylvania. Successful completion of the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) or the Comprehensive Osteopathic Medical Licensing Examination of the United States (COMLEX‑USA). Certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, or board eligible. DEA License Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Act 33 with renewal Act 34 with renewal Act 73 FBI Clearance Position Type/Expected Hours of Work Incumbent will be scheduled based on operational need (rotate shifts, standby, on‑call, etc.).
