Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) – a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval determines award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) based on the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office review. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply. Qualifications To qualify for this position you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physicians in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation. Basic Requirements United States citizenship (non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA policy) Doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree from a VA-approved school for the year of completion Full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state, territory, commonwealth, or D.C. Residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to board certification, or the alternative residency and practice pathways, or, in rare cases, an exception based on a qualified record of experience Proficiency in spoken and written English Qualified candidates must be Board Eligible or Board Certified by ABIM or ABFM Preferred minimum of 5 years of clinical practice experience (not required) Reference: For more information on this qualification standard please visit Physical requirements per VA Directive and Handbook 5019 Duties Provide comprehensive primary and acute care services to Veterans in an outpatient setting, including management of acute illness, chronic disease management, and preventive health. Assess, diagnose, plan treatment, consult, and maintain accurate medical documentation. Serve as same-day care provider and provide cross coverage for other providers as needed. Supervise and train resident physicians and medical students. Collaborate with mid-level providers (Nurse Practitioners and/or Physician Assistants). Participate in quality assurance, process improvement, systems redesign, and advanced clinical access initiatives to support VA national, VISN, and local performance goals. Support administrative tasks related to patient management and maintenance of treatment records within Primary Care services. Communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and utilize community agencies to facilitate treatment planning, scheduling of procedures, continuity of care, and problem resolution. Promote a collaborative and professional work environment by fostering cooperation, maintaining courteous interactions, and meeting program goals and customer needs. All other duties as assigned.
