Postdoctoral Associate – NOAA Cooperative Institute of the University of Miami We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral associate with a strong background in physical oceanography, experience in the analysis of satellite and in situ observations, and numerical model output. The successful candidate will investigate the horizontal and vertical redistribution of heat in the ocean, focusing on the subtropical South Pacific and Indian Oceans, using observations and a state-of-the-art ocean general circulation model. The specific objectives include: The combined analysis of satellite (altimetry, GRACE, SST, and other missions) and in situ (Argo and repeat hydrography) data to infer regional full-depth and deep-ocean heat content changes. Monitoring and analyzing the current evolution of regional heat content in response to the El Niño event. Designing, conducting, and analyzing dedicated numerical experiments with an eddy-permitting ocean general circulation model. The position will be potentially hosted by the NOAA Cooperative Institute of the University of Miami. The candidate must qualify to receive clearance from the US Department of Commerce to work physically at the NOAA Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory. The starting date is expected to be in May-June 2018, but is negotiable. The initial appointment will be for one year, renewable based on performance. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Physical Oceanography, Atmospheric Science, or a related field, with demonstrated ability and interest in publishing results in peer-reviewed journals. Highly desirable qualifications include experience in processing and analyzing large satellite and in situ datasets, and the ability to run ocean or coupled atmosphere-ocean models. To apply, contact Dr. Denis Volkov at . Please include a curriculum vitae, a cover letter outlining research interests, work experience, publication record, and contact information for three professional references. #J-18808-Ljbffr
